Did anyone else get this email:

Good Morning

First of all, I want to apologize if this email is unsolicited, but I thought you may be interested in a project we are building between some PADI, SSI, NAUI and TDI diving professionals.

During the last months we noticed that we (diving professionals) don’t have a channel to talk and discuss serious issues about the Scuba Diving Profession… not only that, sometimes diving instructors need advice from more experience divers in other fields like Rebreathers, Cave Diving, Tech diving, Trimix etc.

So, we just created a forum/board called www.************** (http://www.**************/)

Obviously the idea is quite clear, to share our experiences and information and try to get more precise information that will make us, a sort of an informal organization of diving professionals.

If you feel you can give us a hand by helping us populate our tech diving section that would be great.
We are aware that you are a member of a key community forum about Rebreathers, so we want to invite you not to abandon your existent forum, but to give us a hand to understand more about your passion and the kind of diving you practice.

Also we are seeking moderators to help us populate the board, so if you have extra time and want to have this role in our brand new baby board, let me know.

Again, thanks a lot for reading and I hope you have great diving this year.

Best Regards,

Joaquin

Doesn't that just drive you up the wall? If I WANTED a new 'scubaboard', I would use GOOGLE! :shakehead:mooner: And not a very good way to find users, either.

If anyone gets spammed by these guys here on ScubaBoard, PLEASE let me know!

Due to the hostile nature of this site, we will be taken more aggressive action to keep it off of ScubaBoard. Two sister forums have identified them as trying to actively recruit members. We don't need that.

How did they get my Email address? I am guessing it was from rebreatherworld due to the line "We are aware that you are a member of a key community forum about Rebreathers" ??

I feel left out! (or more likely my spam filter ate it).

If anybody wants to foward me the entire message including headers, I take great joy in pointing out to the ISP involved how their customer violated the ISPs TOS (which almost always include "no spamming").

I'd bet if you didn't censor their site and make folks curious, they'd either ignore it or go take a look and find out for themselves there isn't much there very interesting. I did.

But then that would no longer be the Scubaboard that we know so well would it? :D

They have hacked into one data base already, and possibly a second. This is the second site this year that is trying to forcibly steal users from other sites. If you want to go to another site, choose the Decostop or ZenDivers. If they stoop so low as to steal from other sites, you just KNOW your identity and such are fair game if you go and visit them. My anti-virus went into overdrive rejecting malware from their site as I loked it over.

In order to prevent them from actively recruiting here, we are taking pre-emptive actions.

I fully understand your blocking their access to SB as best you can. But are you saying you can't accomplish that without also blocking SB member access to their site? I looked before it was censored and just didn't see any threat of your loosing SB membership to them.

note to self don't irritate Terry. . .

It's just a holdover from the years I spent working at AppliedTheory/Navisite/Conexion, which had a no-wiggle-room spamming policy.

If a customer was a spammer, the life of the site could be measured in minutes.

Sometimes it's just hard to give up the fun parts of the job. 8-)

The site is malicious. I have no issues with people going wherever they want. But when a site becomes malicious, we take measures to make sure that they simply can not get a foot hold in here. Censoring the site name prevents them from spamming our membership by creating an account and sending out PMs. Also, we don't want to spread whatever malware is being pushed by their site.

We support the creation of competing sites and will even give them space in our announcements forum to promote their sites. From what I have seen so far, this site has been created to cause damage. Do a "Whois" and you will find that you can't find out who they are. Believe me, this is an extreme measure for an extremely malicious site. We don't do this often. In fact, of all the sites out there, we only block 7.

They're already violating several provisions of DomainsByProxy's TOS.

You should drop DBP an email.

I agree. I'm also a member of rebreatherworld, as well as TDS, so that could very well be it.

I will leave that for others to do Terry. Anything like that from me can be construed as being malicious. For now, I will be content to keep them off of our forum. BTW, did you get my e-mail?

How did they get my Email address? I am guessing it was from rebreatherworld ...

It didn't come from RBW, but they hit us pretty bad over there.
Those mails were send to our members, and the ones complaining about it publicly
had posts, threads and even their accounts deleted. That included several mods and
admins.

They're a malicious bunch, you don't want them to mess around on any website or board you enjoy visiting.

This one I forwarded to Pete right away, but I get dozens of spam mail a day.

About the only spam I get is via my Supporting membership email acct here. I can't turn it off as I've lost the password. I have sent messages to reset the password for me or just delete it, but I know that Pete has too much else going on.

seems like nearly everybody on my site got a mail along the same lines. whats wrong with people? do they really think thats a "concept" that works in the long run, beside the fact it is basically identical with my old messageboard and shows in fact a bunch of the original posts from there??????

just a post of one of the members on my site:

...Now I have to admit I was a little bit disturbed! First I thought, oh the guys from *********** started under a new name over - even if that makes no sense at all considering that the old name rings a bell with people this days.

So to make it short, i went to the site and first of all i was a bit more disturbed. Considering a (dive) professional website one has to wonder about the topbanner on it showing a guy in (freediving?) outfit with his mask in the most unprofessional manner where? - right, you guessed it, on his forehead!!! Now that is a elementary nono for several reasons in scuba diving I thought. One would be that it easy to loose in this position the more relevant is that it is commonly considered as a sign of distress!
So what does the designer trying to tell us - that the site is in distress from start up????

Anyway, I started to look into it a bit. next amazement, i find copied articles from the old *********** messageboard. Why would you have to do that as the first and leader in professional divers online communication one would have to ask himself....
