I've done it off a boat. Took me a bit to do it the first time, mind you.

Some boats its easier than trying to maneuver yourself around to do a back roll.

I didn't say it can't be done off some boats because it can but you can't do it off all boats. Standing up on the edge of an inflatable and doing a forward roll would be an interesting entry to watch  I'm willing to watch if you're game to try it though :eyebrow:

I have to do a forward roll entry off a platform on one of the boats we dive in West Palm Beach and at first I was nervous to do it, but because of the way the platform is, it's an easy entry. I too like backwards entry (I've done this off small boats in Truk Lagoon and also while on a liveaboard in BVIs). That giant stride creeps me out since I'm afraid of heights... I know that sounds silly, but I hesitate every time!

Make for an interesting video at least.

...........To me, it's much easier to back roll, and then twist around than it is to walk around the deck.

I love either the back roll or giant stride. Assuming the back roll poistion can be a REAL pain on some boats though. One entry I had to do and did not like was a cartwheel (best name I can come up with). I had to step over a short wall, put my foot on a 2" wide ledge, stand sideways to the water and roll out sideways. I was not a fan and quite frankly will never dive with that operation again...for safety reasons not due to the entry type.

There is such a thing as a forward roll entry but you have to be careful your tank doesn't slide up and whack the back of your head as you roll forward. Ber :lilbunny:

That is why the black ops guys (i.e. DIR/GUE/TDI/etc.) wear a crotch strap. :D

We call that the Tobermory twist :D Many years ago it was included in the open water classes at the university because Tobermory was a regular trip. Personally I love to forward roll or do a "Nestea Plunge" (for those old enough to remember what that is) style entry when the conditions are favorable. Haven't gotten up the nerve to try the forward roll with the doubles yet, I'd probably kill myself.

Yes it is in fact a Tobermory Twist....:dork2:.....ever get the feeling you know too much? :rofl3: Maybe when you come up here to do the twist I will try on the flips

I'm kinda creepy huh? :eyebrow:

We dive off the Joseph Simon now when we go. Hubby has been on the Mamie and done the twist but I've only been on the J. Simon, I LOVE the raise/lower platform in the back :D We're skipping Toby this year for Bermuda :eyebrow:

We don't. It's not even the most common entry. It is, however, the best entry when diving from a small, unstable boat.

Yeppers!
