Same thing really, no?

What I meant is that if your heel extends too far to fit with cave line springs then... You need a larger fin or larger springs!

You're right - probably just semantics.

On this point, we agree. :D

Thanks for all the posts - most useful. It sounds like my Jets (L) might be ok after all - just feel a bit naked after having fins that support nearly all the way down the hell.

To ask a final question - here is a picture of my Jets squeezed on yesterday evening. Does this amount of protrusion seem normal? Increasingly I'm thinking yes. I'm unlikely to have the opportunity to try them out in the pool until after it's too late to exchange the size so I need to make my call now-ish. I will be getting spring straps so this may help also. Going to get Scubapro variety unless anyone has a better suggestion.

This look reasonable?

A lot of people I know make their own. I dunno how to do this myself though :) - was going to look into it so I can put springs in my Jet Fins like my other fins.

I've spent a lot of time avoiding DIY on the off chance I might be good at it and get roped in for more. This originally applied to my house by I've extended the axiom to all aspects of my life: you can't be too careful.

That said, if you find out how to do it, PM me, and I might try to do it in secret. Just don't tell anyone.

I have customised the fit of my XXLs for use with my DS as I found the pocket just too big, I put a thick strip of rubber either side of the pocket and riveted them in with stainless rivets (big washer on either side as well to prevent the rivet pulling through). They fit perfectly now and only took a few minutes to do.

My foot is in the pocket up to the start of my ankle which makes for a very precise and powerful feel.

No takers for how my foot looks in my JetFin then?
That's about how mine look with 5mm booties. With my drysuit, I think the heels might stick even further out.

The real issue is not how they look, but how they feel. If there is no slop in the foot pocket and you have all the control and mobility you need, then I wouldn't worry too much about how far the heel sticks out.

It is hard to tell from a picture, but I suspect that you have the heel strap too tight. You want the heel strap tight enough to still be comfortable and possibly allow the fin to wiggle slightly if, while sitting in a chair and kicking as wildly as possible the fin will begin to wobble a little on your toe. For normal kicking, the fin should be very stable.

I know another person who lined their large rubber foot pocket with an extra layer of neoprene on the inside to enhance fit and comfort.

Yep! No problems there
