Koh Tao has a very thriving technical diving scene. It is centered around the MV Trident technical liveaboard (soon to be replaced by a larger boat).

Jamie and Stu that run the Trident are pretty famous for their wreck exploration in the Gulf of Thailand, especially the discovery of the USS Lagarto. So much so that Chatterton and Kohler have chartered their boat several times.

Whilst most tech diving takes places from the Trident, there are several other tech training schools on the island. In particular, Big Blue Tech have been developing a wide range of courses (tech, cave and CCR) over the last few years.

Krabi has the deepest cave dives in south east Asia (possibly the world?) at Sra Keow Caves near Ban Naisa in Ao Nang. To the north is the Khao Sok national park which has many caves in the worlds oldest evergreen forest.

Do a search for Bruce Konefe Krabi, to find out more about the actual dives and dive sites.

In Ao Nang there is also a good supplier of Tech gear, One Stop Dive Center, which is the Thailand distributor for Halcyon and DIR dive gear.

My apologies.... I should have mentioned Bruce Konefe earlier!

He does some great expeditions around Thailand and the Philippines.

Top bloke and huge knowledge on cave and CCR. If or when I decide to get into cave diving, he'll be the man I ask to show me how..

If you want to do some tec dives in the Similans, we have a liveaboard there from mid-November. Please take a look at our website and contact Vince.

Bruce Konefe's already been mentioned, he's the man for your cave and CCR courses in Thaialnd and the Philippines as well.

Here's an interesting site with lots of very detailed information of pretty much all wrecks in Thailand and some good information on tech diving in Thai waters as well.

Enjoy, it makes for some good reading!

Well Pattaya / Samesan has the hole if you fancy some real testing dives. Depths up to 90m just 30mins out from the pier!

Bruce is based here, along with mermaids, aquanauts, steve burton and few others that provide tech courses / trips

There's cave diving in Khao Sok north of Khao Lak...The tech divers I know who've been there say it's awesome....

Khao Sok is great! Don't forget the sunken village there too

Just north of kanchanburi in a small town Thong pom Phum, there are a bunch of caves up there. I lost count but can think of about 8 different cavern/ caves up there that I found. I actually prefer to teach cave courses up there. There is more of a variety of caves up there and give you more of a real life experience cave diving. There are some sunken cities up in the lakes also. There is a lake up there in the same general area where there is a sunken city at about 120 m, I got a map of this before the flood and after. Tried finding it once but was not to successful. Next trip up there i am looking for a undiscovered cave. The entrance is at around 90 meters so that should make it a bit interesting. There are some neat ledges and the hole to dive in around Samae San area. I have seen alot of large sting rays and even one dive seen 5 sharks. gulf of Thailand is littered with wrecks mostly in the 50-70 meter range.
