"Panther Grouper" is a really cool name.

Kevin
And if youy look at the pic on Reef Protection International - Reef Fish Guide it is a really cool looking fish too....I have seen this in a few places, but it is infrequent--nothing like lionfish! They do not look like they would be particularly adept at avoiding predation.
I am waiting anxiously to hear what the big threat is :D

I bet 95% of the people who post here are under the impression that there is some kind of valid prohibition against collection at the BHB;

I infer you think this is bad thing. With hundreds of thousands of views, why would you want to invite competition for your own collecting as well as further destruction of this jewel.

Who was "the man in charge" with whom you spoke. As I recall you said you spoke to "top FWC officials" who said it was ok to "stab" fish there too.

When the County passed the no collecting ordinance, legal's position was we can regulate what happens on park property. I'm pretty sure you can still face charges if apprehended with tropicals in your truck.

FOR EVERYBODY ELSE, PARTICULARLY YOU PHOTOGRAPHERS, I WOULD SUGGEST YOU STOP ANNOUNCING ON PUBLIC FORUMS WHERE YOU SAW WHAT. use PM's. IJS

It was the glitch with boat divers on State submerged land that initiated the County's interest in declaring this a sanctuary.

I spoke with DERM today, and they were excited to here about this thread. I have forwarded it to them, and will do so with Parks and Rec as soon as find the right person. There has been a change in the upper management since I left.

Thanks. I provided the thread to them over a year ago, but never heard anything further from them.

Phil Foster Park is a major boat launch facility. Many fish are landed there. Do you see the fish cutting boards located at several locations? Landing of fish and lobsters (and marine life) is not prohibited at this facility.

I was speaking of the collection of tropicals. Not legal activities.

It was a great dive at the bridge today (even if I had to walk under the crime tape)...warmish water (77 F) with good viz. Saw some eagle rays and quite a few sharp tailed eel. I saw three tiny octopus within the first 4 minutes of the dive. I'll be back tomorrow

Hopefully I push the right buttons. When I saw the pics from the sanctuary meeting, I saw DERM's deputy director. Found out today, the Director was there as well. And because of my 9 years, they know me. And, the gentleman I spoke with today remembered my daughter when she assisted in a turtle rescue.

I'll contact Parks and Rec too. Of course they know me. And they remember my daughter as well. When she was in Life Guard surf camp, she assisted one of the directors in rescuing a Pelican that was caught up in fishing line.

DD,
When was the last time any of us saw one of the fisherman hooking and landing a blenny or a frogfish?

The fish the fisherman get, are NOT the fish we are visiting BHB to see.

The collectors however, ARE trying to REMOVE the fish that the hundreds of us are trying to see.

Few of us see the actions of the fisherman destructive to our idea of BHB as a Marine Park...Virtually ALL of us see collectors as EXTREMELY DESTRUCTIVE to what we "experience" as a Marine Park. ( this is not an arguement for you about whether or not BHB is a Marine Park...what I would hope you would get from this, is that most of us see the BHB a certain way...a way you seemingly enjoy threatening).

None of us would likely have EVER given you grief about the minor collecting I expect you would have been engaged in--particularly if you had not tried to CHAMPION the actions of collectors, and then made a video of yourself stabbing a baby flounder like a Great White Hunter. If many of us try hard enough, we can remember some good posts by you, that were nice to have in this SB community. Ever since the Sanctuary meeting, you have worked hard to antagonize almost evryone here that would have treated you as a friend, and would have given you far more latitude than "tourists or outsiders"..you have "been here" on SB, and at the BHB a long time, and this would have counted for plenty.... Why not go back to this..the way you were prior to your Charlie Sheening :D
