I am newly certified OW diver. (13 dives today)

Some people are telling me I should get the Nitrox knowledge. I understand the value is in surface interval time being lessened as well as it is supposed to make you feel better after diving? I don't feel badly after diving.....Comments/recommendations/opinions

There is a lot of value of the Nitrox knowledge.

There is physiology and dive theory, which is a basis for more advanced diving.

There are extended No Decompression Limits at any depth deeper than 40 feet, and as deep as the recreational limits (and even beyond).

This can also result in shorter surface intervals and still longer bottom times.

Nitrox is an important class if you ask me.

Does that mean you can safely miss a 3min safety stop if you are diving at, say 80ft? I am not sure what you are saying. My dive buddy is a hoover who only gets about 25mins out of 80 tank at 78ft. I originally thought the "more bottom time" implied he'd be able to last longer and with him using Nitrox we would be somewhat equal. I was told that is not the case. However, some of what you said leads me to believe that is the case. So- sorry to be ignorant, but can you break that down into tard terms? LOL

and p.s. Howard- I dove in Riviera today- OMG The water was so clear and there were so many fish. It seriously seemed like i was diving in a giant aquarium. It was so beautiful down there today and just schools and schools of fish swimming big ""s" patterns all over the place. :chairfight: (ok- I just had to put that emote in because It made me laugh and I have no idea when i'd have a relavent post to use it.) LOL

As long as your dive is gas limited (your gas runs low) nitrox will make little difference. You will breath the same amount of gas whether it be nitrox or air. But, eventually your buddy's consumption will improve and you will find yourself ending dives because you No Decompression Limit is coming into play. That is when nitrox will have the big payoff.

its a strange thing, I certified as ocean diver with bsac which allows me to use nitrox but does NOT allow me to use nitrox tables

If you are coming up at the correct speed you can always miss a safety stop. It isn't needed (but I normally do one)

I see very little benefit in taking a NITROX course at this time. The fills cost more as does the course and unless you are already coming up because you hit you NDL instead of ending a dive because you are low on air then I would wait.

Awap- Ooooooohhh. I got it now. Thank you.

I am sorry-it was in poor taste.

Agree with all above. You have to weigh the extra cost of fills vs. the extra time. And you have to dive at the best depths (as mentioned) to make it really worthwhile. I am of the camp that it doesn't have any effect on how you feel. Many agree, many disagree. Search threads on this for their rationales.
