If you check the trip advisor forum, almost everyone recommends. ISIS or Thrifty for rentals. Thrifty is right by the airport and convenient for flying into Cozumel. ISIS is downtown and would be a short walk from the ferry. The owner is a great women that everyone trusts. Check her website. The rental price includes all insurance. Look at the comments on the trip advisor forum and you will see these tow have the loyal followings. We used thrifty on our last trip and they were great. Both will give you there private cell number in case of any problems. I would not try any others based on other's posts.

Unless it has changed, the insurance provided by Isis leaves the renter with the potential for a charge in the event of major damage. Check the details before you rent. Hertz and Avis in the airport accept my credit card insurance.

And do you realize how that would work if you had a loss? Pay in full before you can leave the island, then file for reimbursement with the forms in Spanish.

Not according to Chase Card services. I hope to never have to use it to find out. They pay in full according to their representative. Regardless, Isis's insurance will leave you with a deductible.

I think the Dollar pick up is at the airport, or in the vicinity of the airport. send them an e-mail and ask where they are located. the best way to get there by taxi. you should be able to pick one up right off the ferry pier. Probably around $8 from there to the airport.

ISIS only carries, sub-compacts. so if you want a small car they are good.

We used Ace this past trip, had a very nice 2014 Toyota Rav4. They are also at the airport. Some people have reported being over charged by Ace, but that was not our case. We will be using them again on our next trip.

You better check if they pay in full immediately. What happens in an accident, is you and the other guy get taken to the police station. Assuming the gringo rule applies, you will be found at fault. Then you need to negotiate the damage amount and then you pay the agreed upon amount. In cash. To both the other guy and the owner of the car you are driving.

If you cannot pay, they will hold you in the tourist jail, ie not that terrible, until the money arrives. That is the Mexico way. No long drawn out process.

Friends of mine got hit in an Isis car. Someone from Isis or their insurance came to the police station, did the negotiations and paid the damage to the other guy, told them what they owed Isis and they were on their way. They did have to agree to pay Isis the deductible on the damage to the Isis car. I think Isis has a 10% deductible? So you might be on the hook for 3-400? Of course that is why you can get a car with ALL the insurance there for 40-45 a day.

I own a car and my insurance folder contains two numbers. One to the insurance to report the accident and the second to the adjuster ON THE ISLAND to get down there and settle things so I can leave.

How long and by what method will Chase pay? How much of your vacation are you willing to spend at the police station?

One of my local friends had lady fly over the hood on a scooter in June. He got taken to jail until the boss went and paid and made arrangements. They had to pay medical, lost wages and repairs. Also as chief said the gringo rule does apply it will be your fault. My friends have told me dont even stop to help because they will try to blame the gringo who they think has money.
I always laugh when I think of people trying to explain to the police they have credit card insurance that covers them. You should have access to money so you can get outta jail. I feel very lucky to have good local friends I would call to help me.

Oh really? Fiesta has many fans on FB. My only experience in the last decade was with Isis, so I can really only tell what I heard.

They may well pay in full, but when? Do you think they will wire funds to cover damages right away so you can leave the island? I think maybe you missed my point...

Chief & Okie seem to understand the risk. You become the cash cow, and they will milk you in full before you leave jail, much less the island.

as much as i appreciate the info regarding insurance.....that really was not the question posted. lets try to stay on topic please.
that being said......i found a map on the dollar web site showing the office being a couple of blocks up benito juarez (spelling?) and around the corner. only a short walk. anyone know if this correct ? i have very bad luck when it comes to following maps found online. many times i have found the maps to be not even close to showing the right location.
i did call dollar and they told me the office was "near the airport". very helpful. (he said sarcastically)

address is listed as......ave 70 norte esquina blvd. not sure if that helps anybody or not. sure doesn't sound like the address that is shown on the map.
