Whoa that's a lot of information. As a norcal native this thread was entertaining. You tropical divers sure hate cold water :D I have friends that will dive a 3mill here. Hell I dive the channel islands on a 3 day live aboard in just shorts.

Are you a Viking or one of those crazy Russians who likes to swim in icy water with just swim trunk? :D

thank you for the hard work of consolidating all of this information.........thanks for sharing.....on stand by for the trip report.

Hahaha. If I had the time is photoshop a horned Viking helmet on.

Fantastic report Richard. As you noted, there are different areas to So Cal diving. The upper Chanel Islands (San Miguel, Santa Rosa, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Anacapa) are different than the southern islands (Catalina, San Clemente, San Nicholas) and have different ecosystems. Good choice on the Truth boats as they really are the top of the live-aboard options here.

Thanks for the kind words, all. It was a great Aug. 16 - 20 Limited Load Southern Channel Islands 5 day trip with Truth Aquatics aboard the Vision.

I finally got the trip report posted; very long, but intended to walk prospective dive tourists through with info. to know if they want to have a trip like mine.

I'd love to see California multi-day live-aboard diving get more 'mindshare' with mainstream U.S.-based live-aboard trip seekers.

Richard.

Wow! I'm a local and you sure have done the work for me. Awesome job.

Keep it simple, go to Catalina. Some of the best and easy entry diving right on the Casino Point and two dedicated dive boats ready to go for more variety. Besides, its a world apart from California the way most think of. Lots of other land based stuff also. No need for car rental.
