One of the best places we've ever been was La Paz during the fall, especially the sea lion juveniles at Los Islotes I believe it was. The rest of the diving is great there, too, although boat leaving from La Paz have a fairly long way to go to get to the dive sites. We also saw a whale shark in the area, which is done on snorkel only.

Well, one problem is that my friend has a timeshare right in Cabo San Lucas and we already have paid for the place. So we will be doing mostly local dives there. I do want to take at least one day to go dive Cabo Pulmo though.
From what I've been reading here from those who have been there, it sounds like Manta Dive offers day trips up there.
Most likely won't be making it to La Paz though!

We took a day trip to Cabo Pulmo with Nautilus Dive Tech and I highly recommend them. They are professional and very safety conscious. We got to dive with Bull Sharks in Cabo Pulmo. It was fantastic!

We also dove with Manta in Cabo San Lucas, and they were okay, but I think they cater more to the cruise ship clientele.

They are in Cabo San Lucas. They picked us up from our condo and drove us to Cabo Pulmo. They were very accommodating. I would talk with them to see what is in season at the time of your visit and plan accordingly. There were also Tiger Sharks in the Cabo Pulmo area, but they were in a different area from where we were diving.

Yea, mythical tiger sharks. I was there in 2011, 2013 & 2015, and saw none. My bad luck? But you'll see tons of schooling jackfish & Sealions for sure.

Some highlights not to miss

Gordo Banks - big pelagic life on some deeper seamounts
Whale sharks in la Paz - 100% guaranteed sightings, I have swam with 12 different individuals in one morning.
El Bajo Seamounts in La Paz have semi-regular sightings of scalloped hammerheads in the fall months
Cabo Pulmo -a unique micro coral reef system and conservation based diving community where no fishing is allowed.
whale watching in Cabo San lucas - not to miss and quite cheap for a half day tour.
.

Is the whale shark dive with scuba or snorkeling? I'll be in Los Cabos from November 6-13. Is that too late in the season to see them? I'm also going to the Cancun area in a couple of weeks and they get about $170 US to snorkel with the whale sharks. Should I save my money for Los Cabos?

Cabo Pulmo has mythical bull sharks, not mythical tigers :)

The whale shark season is from September to April so you're all good.
If you can make yoour own way up to La Paz you can get the trips much cheaper.
PM me and I can give you some suggestions.

It looks like La Paz is about 100 miles from Cabo San Lucas so I'm thinking I might need to schedule a separate trip to La Paz. I guess I'll be lucky if after this trip I can say I dove in the Sea of Cortez  The closest I've gotten so far was that we flew over the entire length of it on the way to Costa Rica a few weeks ago.
