That solution does not explain your wifes system not picking up you DC. After all she has her own dongle?

You are correct in that it doesn't explain why it didn't work with my wife's laptop.

The error I got on her laptop was different so I have to assume it failed for some other reason.

I did get suggestions to remove her Perdix and start "fresh" on her laptop, but I didn't want to screw around with something that was working and that is why I tried it on a second laptop where it did work.

Any decent, and recent, BT dongle ought to work given a modern version of Windows.

Did you try to sync your wife's Perdix with your computer? Obviously at this point the problem is solved, but I'm curious if you would have received the same error when trying your wife's computer with your BT dongle.

Do you have a laptop? Chances are it has Bluetooth built-in already.

I bought a few off of ebay at 1.50 each
the dongle is not unique to the shearwater computers, it is a blue tooth device, that is all.
