What concerns me is that there are still online retailers still selling the H3 ,that no idea that there is no longer any warranty for this product .
 
I remember when the H3 came out, and people, all of who were involved with it in some way or another, but trying to act like they weren't , said it was as good as Shearwater.

My wife and I have H3's for about a year, no problems so far. What issues are people having ?
 
Ah, yes. unlike in Europe, in the good ol' USA manufacturers get away with all sorts of shady anti-consumer cartel behaviors. They will refuse warranty, if they don't like/control the final retailer ("unauthorized dealer" excuse). They refuse to sell parts to consumers for products they sold ("life-support equipment" argument). They fix the price on the market ("authorized" dealers are forced to maintain minimum advertised price). And all sorts of other cr*p.
Just today, Europe has signed a trade treaty with Canada that will reduce the power of judges versus globalised companies. Next step is the treaty with USA, and soon enough we will all be equal, with our collective knickers on our ankles, bro. Shale gas, canned drinks, and justice for all. [ our base was attacked by a giant socialist weasel _again_ :-]

My wife and I have H3's for about a year, no problems so far. What issues are people having ?
I asked the same question just a few days ago. Look up in the thread a bit.

- brittle screws . No solution known, short of re-drilling the threads and replacing with better quality screws. Contact Johnson Outdoors and try to get a replacement unit from scubapro.
- dead pixel rows (or was it columns ?). Same (lack of) solution.
- fast discharge if detection of dive is turned on (solved in latest FW). Go thru menus and turn it off.
- charge problems after many cycles. It is recommended to simply leave the H3 on the charger at all times (except maybe while diving....)
- no redundancy on the wrist strap. If any of the 2 pins breaks, the unit is lost. It is recommended to get a Countycomm band or make your own (paracord with bungee for example).
- filled up memory causes corruption. Make sure you dive log does not outgrow the capacity of the H3 memory. The H3 has only 4MB memory (thousands of times less than your phone). The bright side is: you can make a disk dump with any backup tool you like, and even do it every time you plug the H3 in your PC, and you have a full backup (your logbook data plus the H3 internal data) and that does not fill up your PC disks.
- the most used or most roughly pushed buttons can break off the circuit board. Rendering the DC unusable. No solution known-> try to get a SP replacement unit.

Do not listen to the doomsday preachers. There are people diving their UEMIS who are still glad with it. There must be glad people, somewhere, locked in an institution, diving the pond with the goldfishes. Yeah, and that's what I ll do if the H3 of of my wife breaks down: I will call UEMIS support. Switzerland is even closer to my place than Sophia Antipolis, and I will get the same quality of service there :)

I think there is also at least one person who has reported the buttons breaking. More than once, I think.

Mine still looks and works like new. I need to stop saying that, though. I just know I'm jinxing myself. But, that's why I always dive with 2 computers.
 
Frankly from a materials background, brittle screws (I mean really!) Screens with dead pixel rows and what ever else is going wrong, just smacks of pi$$ poor quality control and design

What makes me giggle is that sunnto got a kicking on SB when they delayed the release of the Eon for a couple of months - but they released a quality product (perhaps in need of some software improvements)

I remember the "excitement" that the H3 would be a Petrel killer - clearly not.

The established manufacturers may not please a lot of SB posters because their algorithms aren't what the SB fraternity believe they should be (after all a few 100 dives clearly trumps 10's if not 100's of thousand of dollars research investment) but at least they have their sh!t together and for the most part deliver a quality product

the excitement was not so wrong. It could in those days have risen at petrel level, if given the development and market time to iron out the wrinkles. The laws of greed have decided for another fate for Seabear. Or some egghead in SP decided. Or Arnie got tired and decided that hospitals and laughing gas are more fun than running a scuba gear business. Anyway, the SB community has little responsibility if you splashed your hard earned money on a H3 and it turns unsupported a few months later.

Uhu. Very wise. I can find for you a second hand Eon for less than 400 euros in my area. It is one of the early models, but same quality as the later produced units, and I can _garanty_ you it will look and perform just the same after 5000 dives :

No need, I've been an Eon user since Feb 15. I never fell for the Seabear hype, nor any other For that matter. With all the people who want a petrel wi AI, and make themselves self appointed experts, I don't understand why they don't build their own computer and market it :wink:

They are probably busy commenting on scuba2.0 about dive computers they do not own or use, and that may be why they are stalling. Just a guess. ;=J

My lady is very happy with her H3 for now, and I am glad noone came pissing on her parade. Treating yourself with bit of hype can be nice sometimes, cut yourself some slack and try it. You are glad with your iron steal, well, good, and I hope it makes steam too and comes with the matching throne. H3 owners are also grownups, and they will come eventually to the conclusions regarding quality and sturdyness of Seabear on their own. Just let em too enjoy their DC in the meantime, why don't you ?
