Time to open the Solo Forum?

Guys, I think the whole solo thing is changing pretty fast around us. I know we're all glad about that. The idiots that hang on to the old ways will be with us for a while, but we should be use to countering their arguments by now. I think it may be time to just open it up. Truth is we...

The best "cheap rubber glove" - dryglove

If you're using zips, then this is one way to go. The gloves are very robust & inexpensive, too: Showa Best Glove, Inc. Providers of N-Dex and Atlas Glove Hand Protection. It's the Natural Latex #55. I've glued the zip on to the hard ring, but you could glue them directly to your suit. Of...

    Neutrally fins

If you're having trouble with your feet being heavy, then in addition to getting a set like the OMS (that's what I'm using), DRs, etc., order them without the steel heel straps. I finally ditched the SS springs & went back to the standard rubber straps, and it makes a difference. Also, if...

    o2 sensor

My cave dives are usually 3-5 hours (have done several in the 5-7 hour range). Always when I pull the head the sensors are just wet, dripping with water. It's not unusual for one of the sensors to go out (not die, but give strange readings) during these dives. I let them air dry that night...

HID vs LED for night diving

HIDs have a definite advantage for signaling, when there is ambient light. Of course that begs the question of why you would need a light in conditions with adequate ambient light. Agree that LEDs are more robust, burn less juice so generally have longer burn times given the same battery size...

    Solo diving on a rebreather

Probably a knee-jerk reaction on my part. Anytime I see a new thread heading that has solo & RB in it, and then the OP's post saying that the diver isn't going to do it anymore because he almost died, it paints a negative picture in my mind. Your statement may be true: "I am convinced beyond a...

    Solo diving on a rebreather

For those of us whom have several hundred hours solo in caves on a RB, many of mine in the 5- to 7- hour range: What can we say? It's your decision to solo or not. It's your decision to substitute an unknown sorb product. It's your decision to pack the sorb in the way that you did. So, how...

Brownie Third Lung - direct experience?

Can't help you there. I've had an electric one for 15 years or so and still works like a charm. Actually, they haven't changed that much in 15 years. I know lots of people who clean boats for a living and the ones that use this system either use an electric compressor or scuba tank on the...

Cavern course completed with Jim Wyatt

Great news, Randy. You'll make an excellent cave diver. Now if we could only get you on Facebook. It's the best way I know for us to keep up with our trips from here to there (VB Tech Divers), on what's going on with Cave Country Dive Shop, Jim Wyatt's adventures, etc. Wishful thinking on...

    Where to do cert dives?

The trick is to set this up before you start. As long as both shops are using the same certification agency and will work with you, you're pretty safe regardless. I did the same thing - class work in VA and cert dives in St Maarten.

    Hammerhead Rev-D

Been using mine since Sept 2011. Works great. Ran the Rev C for 4 years before that with no issues. They have a newer version Rev D out with a much larger battery. That's a good choice as the Ds are hungrier than the Cs. Anything specific that's going on with the ones your referencing?
