Pool access in the Northern VA, Maryland or DC area?

Most of the shops run a review class that comes with pool time.

    BP/W setup during Divemaster training

I wore my BP&W in my DM class and it was fine. If I'm on staff, sure, put whatever restrictions you want on my gear. If I'm a student, I'll use whatever I please unless there is a safety reason as to why that gear is not appropriate. If an instructor wants me in different gear but can't...

    souring on Oceanic

No reason to replace things that aren't broken because you are worked up. Have you tried calling them instead of relying on web forms? I've always called them and received excellent service.

Letter of Complaint for Splash DiveCenter, Alexandria Virginia

I wouldn't. I'm sure PADI got more information then the rest of us did and they kicked him and the shop out. There are plenty of other instructors out there who haven't been kicked out by an agency. Why risk it. I'd go elsewhere.

    miflex carbon HD hoses

I didn't have an issue with the first one but enough did that they recalled them all. XS Scuba did a good job on the recall and quickly got me a replacement. It looks real fancy and I don't have a problem continuing to use it. Its still in the bag though - I haven't had a chance to dive it yet.

Would a Remote Exhaust Elbow help control buoyancy when using an octo-inflator in OOA

There are lots of reasons why you might have to donate air to someone else that have nothing to do with how well trained and comfortable you are. Training and comfort might just lead to actually needing to share air more as you become more observant of others and better able to assist them in...

Accident at Lake Rawlings Sunday 05/27/2012

Not that I have seen. I called PADI and asked and they said they don't release details - or at least the person who answered the phone did. The shop is now advertising SDI classes so they may not be interested in contesting PADI's determination and we may not find anything out.

    Failed Checkout Dives :(

Not from sudafed, but I did get one. I'm not exactly sure why I got it - maybe I had a cold coming on and didn't realize it or something. But, it was miserable. It was painful, it made it hard to sleep, and it lasted something like 2/3 days before it finally let go. If sudafed increases the...

    Failed Checkout Dives :(

You don't need to see anything. You need to get hit with a reverse squeeze and feel it. I have had the pleasant experience of having a reverse squeeze, and let me tell you (so you can see it) - if there is even the tiniest chance of increasing the risk that that happens again, its a no go for me.

    Failed Checkout Dives :(

I doubt it will stay there the first time you get a reverse squeeze and suffer for a couple days till it opens. That is no fun at all.

    Failed Checkout Dives :(

I would hardly consider that failing. From time to time, people do get seasick and miss dives for all sorts of reasons. Now you know and you can finish your cert next time. No big deal.

PADI Master Scuba Diver - what does it give you?

    I don't think that's accurate. I'm a Divemaster but I don't think I can get a Master Diver card because I don't officially have 5 specialty cards.

Do you use long hose set-up with Air2?

I don't see why not. Just be sure to practice with whatever setup you have. That said, if your primary still has the original hose on it, please at least change it to an octo length hose. An air share with a short primary hose is not the most fun.

    certification required to purchase equipment?

There is no "rule" that you need a certification to buy diving equipment. That LDS is probably talking about a policy - most likely a very wise policy.

Help with trim-PADI style hover skill

How long were you buddy breathing? Seems like even with a little tank, it should last a long time in the pool. The trick to the gear exchange is just to stay calm. Remember you can be underwater for some time without needing a breath - I'm sure you used to swim in the pool and dive down to...

Help with trim-PADI style hover skill

I agree but for different reasons. It's seems like you are looking for an equipment solution for a skills problem. As a DM candidate you should be comfortable in different equipment. Im not saying kneeling is the best solution but I doubt you are short enough that an al80 is longer than your...

    BCD requirements for Drysuit

I would prefer not to "just ditch it" at 100' and rocket to the surface if, say you cut a hole in the suit on a wreck or something.

    BCD requirements for Drysuit

Huh? What happened to all the lead you were carrying to sink that undergarment before it became soaked. That is what you are compensating for if the suit fails. I would prefer not to "just ditch it" at 100' and rocket to the surface if, say you cut a hole in the suit on a wreck or something...

    Equalizing tanks

That's only if you can pump a vacuum on the storage tank and get all the gas out. But you can't. It will fill the first tank to less than 2100 psi and each after that even lower.
