    American Airlines Monopoly on Cozumel

The Continental staff on Cozumel were replaced when the change happened; we had known a couple of them. Other things changed. Water under the bridge, though. I don’t care enough to read a book about it

I would never dive hung over, but I do not waste precious vacation time getting too drunk to enjoy it and hung over the next day, anyway. Lesson learned.

    American Airlines Monopoly on Cozumel

That was not at all my experience, and living in Austin I flew with them a lot. I think that a lot depends on the local staff you deal with with any airline.

    American Airlines Monopoly on Cozumel

It didn’t seem that way to me. United name, United staff, United policies… the only vestige of Continental I could see was the plane tail art.

    American Airlines Monopoly on Cozumel

My experiences with Continental over the years was very different; I really miss them since United devoured them.

    American Airlines Monopoly on Cozumel

When we flew to Poland through Amsterdam last year we didn't see our bags from the time we checked them in Austin until we collected them in Warsaw. The US policy where you have to retrieve your bags and recheck them for the connecting flight while leaving the secure part of the airport and...

    American Airlines Monopoly on Cozumel

An example of this is the Austin - Houston route. The air traffic control for the two airports practically overlap and the planes cruise at a much lower altitude, which is itself more expensive per mile because of the denser air.

    American Airlines Monopoly on Cozumel

Distance flown has little to do with airline fares. Fares are set with the overall bottom line in mind considering demand, market share, and what the traffic will bear for each route. Also, the most expensive (fuel consuming) parts of every flight to the airline are takeoffs and landings; the...

    American Airlines Monopoly on Cozumel

I don't think it applies because I do not see where American Airlines has sustained any damage, but as I said, it doesn't matter what you or I think. Let the airline take it to court and see what the judge says.

Maybe we do, but my standards and yours are irrelevant. Slander is a legal term.

People have the right to whine in an internet forum whenever they like, and I have not seen anything in this thread which would qualify as slander.

    American Airlines Monopoly on Cozumel

Setting airline fares is complicated and has relatively little to do with miles flown. An airline that takes a loss on some routes because they have a lot of competition will make it up by charging a premium for routes where there is less (or no) competition. I remember one year when I was...

    American Airlines Monopoly on Cozumel

Well, it sort of is. Every airline knows what all the others are charging on every route, and if they are the only alternative, they charge more. Welcome to the "free market". :D

Yeah, that bike lane did a number on what was the already meager parking at Blue Angel as well. Taxi drivers sometimes won't stop in front of the hotel.

    American Airlines Monopoly on Cozumel

When I total up all the expenses for a two week Cozumel trip, a couple hundred dollars variation on the air fare isn't all that much of a consideration.

    American Airlines Monopoly on Cozumel

If you look you'll see that I haven't been involved in the to and fro about direct vs non-stop flights. Plenty of other stuff bothers me, though. :D
