Insel air will nail you in excess weight if you have anything over their limits. They were late departing and I missed my connection out of Curacao. We probably could have made the connection, but AmericAn shuts down their checking counter very early.

I am not sure there is an answer to what is best. Most likely your answer will be "what I like". As far as what to buy, I would start with the obvious - mask, fins, wetsuit... then add from there - regs, bcd etc. If you are diving locally and want to be able to head out on a moments notice...

So far the only thing I have used in my kit is the extra mouth piece for the reg. I carry basic tools, o-rings, mouthpiece, mask and zip ties.

I am a big guy - 6'4". I route mine under my arm and clip to the bottom my bcd with a spring retractor. Works fine for me with the stock hose in that config.

Well in spite of the fact that no one knew what a dive computer is, all of our Christmas guests got to see my wife's pink cover installed, and how well it matched the pink kit on her reg. Now Atomic, stop with the pink stuff before you bankrupt me! Seriously, thanks for great stocking stuffer.

Chlorine kills that shiny chrome stuff on a motorcycle. Turns it a nice pitted green. keep your pool supplies in an outside shed.

Ron, Not sure what I mean :-). I find myself just using my dive watch at my safety stop because the bright light washes out the display, and according to my wife I am sort of hard of hearing so I don't hear the buzzer. At least I think that is what she said, couldn't really hear her. I think...

how about a 3 minute buzzer for the safety stop. The screen is kind of hard to see at 15' depth in bright light (water).
