U/W Photos from Roatan (Mar 8-21, 2014) Reef House

Very nice. How about a trip report on Reef House?

    Duane or Spiegel Grove?

I've had a couple of zero current dives on the SG, but the Duane has been ripping every time for me. I would love to dive it in zero current. Both are great. Try for both.

Has SCUBA training gone too far?

The only specialty that I have, Photography, has been disparingly mentioned twice here. Amusing, because this is a complex subject, even for an accomplished on land photographer.

+1 for Margate Bay. My favorite!

    Rainbow Reef or Conch Republic

Both run shallow boat trips where you will generally be around 40' or less. No problem there. You will probably appreciate the free guide that Rainbow Reef puts in the water. They are helpful to point out interesting things you might otherwise miss. Remember that they are navigating to show...

Key Largo Rainbow Reef Dives VS. Pirate Island Divers

My son and daughter in law have used both Rainbow Reef and Pirate Island. They like both for diving, but they really liked Pirate Island more because they had more of a valet service. Pirate Island stored their gear overnight and hauled it to the boat for them. They really appreciated not...

    "Scuba Diving Killing Older Divers"

Many cardiac events give no warning signs. An article I read said that four out of ten can survive if given effective first aid. Having this happen underwater would be a really bad thing. I am sure it would reduce the odds even further. Getting old sucks, but it beats the alternative. Now...

Guess I misunderstood your post. I apologise, but you are still pretty young.

    "Scuba Diving Killing Older Divers"

You can always limit your dive buddies by age to reduce the chance of having one croak. I am not so sure you will get a lot of support from dive operators. The older divers with time and money make up a good bit of their income stream. As an old guy, I resent bowlofpetunias attitude. Wonder...

Key Largo Rainbow Reef Dives VS. Pirate Island Divers

He won't be able to catch much of a nap between dives. Usually there is just enough time to grab a sandwich.

California bill to ban orca shows

They probably want to close zoos and aquariums too. Educating the public about animals they would never see otherwise is a worthwhile endevour that in the long run aids conservation efforts.

Considering learning Scuba diving at 50 years old am I insane?

I agree go for it. You are definitely not too old, I was 61 when I started diving and at 67 I am getting my Dive Master Certification. Definitely, check with Wounded Warrier. I feel sure they can point you in the right direction. In the meantime, hang out here. Read and ask questions...

I am skeptical about a close friend of mine and her diving experience.

A few years ago, I participated in a project with divers from the Maritime Research Division of the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology (SCIAA). Maritime Research | SCIAA | Arts & Sciences | University of South Carolina They do survey known wrecks and participate in other...

    palm beach-grand bahama crossing

Depends on the weather and a realistic boat speed. The Gulf Stream can be very rough and dangerous when the prevailing wind has a strong component from the north. The wind running against the strong north flowing stream kicks up high waves with short intervals. Ideally, you want to arrive at...

    Recommendations for Bahamas

This might be an option to be off of the beaten path, Great Guana Cay. Abaco Diving and Snorkeling - Dive Guana. We dove with them a few years ago. A small friendly operation. We did not stay at any of the cottages because we were living on our boat, but the accomodations looked quait and...

    Diving Accident, Self-Responsibility and Balance

Panic and hyperventilation can easily cause the events and symptoms you described. I have to agree with those that think it is a stretch to look for oddball undiagnosed medical issues. The thing you forgot on reaching the surface, that you make light of, is the thing that really matters...

I've had it with wireless air integration

Never a problem for me with an Uwatec computer. I do have a backup SPG just in case.
