    Refinishing LP72s?

Nice job! I noticed your vis decals, another local diver!

    Fear of Deep/Open Water

I am relatively green to this diving thing too and can remember the butterflies and nervous feeling on my first boat dives where the bottom was at 60'. Our local boat dive conditions mean that when dropping down the anchor line there is no boat visible above and no bottom visible below for a...

    Aqua Lung Masks

I can only speak about the AL micromask, I haven't tried the other. I have had one for about 40 dives or so and love it. It is low volume and clears easily for me, has a great field of view and so far has held up very well. To be fair I did have to get a replacement after about 2 dives because...

    Octo Placement Holder

Another option is to use a snorkel keeper to hold your octo mouthpiece out of harms way.

Why is an AL80 not 80?

I've been hoodwinked on my tank AND my TV AND my boat? Holy smokes whats next! So its simply a rounding or simplification and NOT a vast conspiracy against me? ;) Ah well, it was just one of those things that you ponder. Like, why did they make the pudgy little 119 such a misfit after...

    Faster drip dry a non-issue?

Thanks everyone for the great thoughts which leads me to conclude that for the most part, I need to get dry to appreciate my dives even more, period. As some have said above, ANY drysuit will be an improvement over my wetsuit. This time of year starts to bring better vis as the temps get colder...

Why is an AL80 not 80?

...and I've had plenty of great dives on my 80s...er...77s!

Why is an AL80 not 80?

Shrinkage? In this weather and water, ya!:shocked2:

    Faster drip dry a non-issue?

manni-yunk, mostly I was asking about getting into and out of the suit post dive, as well as the drying. In other words, will I be miserable getting out of and putting away the suit. AND, will I be miserable getting back into the suit tomorrow, or next week for that matter. Lots of good...

Why is an AL80 not 80?

Kinda what I've been thinking, no real reason at all. Makes me kick myself for passing on all of the 72's to buy a pair of new AL80's. For the money with a typical short fill I'd have been further ahead with the underrated 72!:D

    Faster drip dry a non-issue?

"are really lovely (not) to climb back in to when damp!" That is exactly my thought. With that being the case, a tri-lam with integrated boots would be a plus yes?

Why is an AL80 not 80?

So how did it come to be that the actual capacity of an AL80 is really 77 even though the neck is stamped 80?

    Faster drip dry a non-issue?

In watching the snow come down I have to admit that my issue limiting time underwater is my cold tolerance. I will soon have to replace my wetsuit with a drysuit and am going back and forth on the different materials. I hope those of you with more experience can offer your opinion. Being in...

We all started out as O/W students

A surefire way to make sure I don't return as a customer is to BS your way through a subject rather than admit your not sure and research it. That is true in any store where part of what I'm paying for is the knowledge of the staff. I don't expect it in the big box stores but in a specialty...

Do you really need a log?

Still being a rookie at this I do log every dive and hope that I continue to do so. Its very much to me like looking back at old family photos... Like the time I buddied up with my son on his first certified dive, good stuff to remember! Who I dove with is just as important to me as my gear...

    Steel vs Nylon bands

Yes, I think the benifits of SS outwiegh the (imagined) drawbacks. So.. SS it is. Thanks for the input everyone!

    Ice Diving Certification / Training

A wooden pallet is nice to have nearby for bystanders to, well, stand by on! For us divers in the mid-west, some of the best visibility diving is done when the water is hard.

    Steel vs Nylon bands

Right, my BC does have a single band and it is nylon (zytel/delrin/?) and it works fine. The buckle on it is sewn in and the band is riveted to the plate so it's not a quick change item so to speak. But...I am setting up a new to me backplate and one of the things to purchase is the bands so...

    Steel vs Nylon bands

Talking about the tank straps or cam bands. The reason I'm asking is often when boat diving (small personal, not charter) my tank and BC is often either laying on the deck, leaning against the side or seat, or being dragged up and over the gunwale into the boat. I'd hate to move to a steel...
