Agreed: never said cost of ownership was the deal maker or breaker. As for servicing your own equipment, most folks have neither the interest nor the time for that. I would venture to guess that Susan6868 and her husband fall into that category. She also plans to dive mostly in salt water...

Something that I'm surprised no one has brought up: cost of ownership. Some brands have replacement parts that cost more than others; some brands, such as Mares, come with free parts. The cost of ownership is something you'll experience when you treat your gear to the annual service it deserves. :)

Depends on your needs. If you're a powerful swimmer, you'll get better results with the Quattro Excels. If you're a so-so swimmer, the Volo Power's are designed to give you good thrust with minimal effort. It's possible to do very well underwater with the Volo's even with a bicycle...

Only way to find out is to bring the suit into a store, Bill. I think with the Bare boots, the XL in the Mares would fit. My BF is a size 12 street shoe, and he manages to get his big old vulcanized attached boots on his drysuit to fit into the XL Mares Quattros no problem. Good luck! :)...

They'll get easier...just open and close the latches while you're watching TV. After a few dozen times, they will open much more easily. If you really hate them, which I personally do because I can't get at 'em with my weak fingers encased in neoprene dry gloves, you can always get spring...

Ah there's the $100 question. Depends on the size of your boot. The largest pocket they make is an XL, and they will fit up to a size 12 attached vulcanized boots comfortably. Beyond that, it's a bit of a squeeze. I was just complaining to Mares yesterday that one of my students with size 13...

I hope you won't discount your local dive store (LDS). Whatever you decide to buy, you'll want to make sure there's someone close by to service your equipment or troubleshoot...unless you're going to guinea pig yourself trying to service your own equipment, while gaining diving experience...
