PADI Instructor to Naui Instructor crossover.

I'm not familiar with the requirements for PADI so I can't answer that. For NAUI the requirements are 2 deep dives with a max depth no deeper than 130 feet. You must be an Advanced Diver to enter the course. There are academic requirements as well.

Are BOW and AOW classes really changing that much

You are correct John that I didn't bring him up and I'm not sure who did. When I surfaced someone yelled for help and I scootered out to him. He was however unconscious, unresponsive and cyanotic. Not sure if that's relevant to the topic but just wanted to share my experience.

Are BOW and AOW classes really changing that much

I was actually in a quarry. The diver surfaced from about 100 feet and was about 100 yards from the dock. I was there with my wife doing some practice dives when we surfaced and heard someone cal for help. I have a DPV with me and scootered over to the dive. No rescue breaths were given since...

Are BOW and AOW classes really changing that much

I had an unconscious diver that was brought to the surface that I rescued, resuscitated, sent to the ER and then to a hyperbaric chamber who was discharged in good condition and returned to diving soon there after. It does occur and having the training to do so can be helpful. I guess I made...

    Scooter recommendation

I have one of the early Dive X Sierra's and still love it. Easy to balance and has been extremely reliable. They are certainly not cheap but I have come to appreciate the reliability.

Question for old timers - NAUI OW class, early 1970s

Good Morning John. I like the History of NAUI article that you referenced quite a bit. It is required reading during my Instructor Training Course to become a NAUI Instructor. I would make a comment to the above quote. While NAUI Instructors do have the freedom to add certain skill and...

Cave recovery - the logistics planning and implementation

Thank you for the link Ken. That was an extremely thorough report and the graphics helped to visually understand where everyone was located. Although I don't cave dive anymore I try to stay connected to the sport. This was the first time I felt the amount of work and energy that must go into...

Any springs in N. Fla. where I could get PADI/SDI AOW checkout dives done?

Personally I like to take my students to Key Largo to do their AOW training this time of year. If you'll go to north Florida then go a little further for better weather, warmer water, and greater things to see. Most of the places I have been to in order to go deep puts you in an overhead in...

    Dive Land Park

I was there a week ago with some open water students and Instructor candidates and had a wonderful time!! John Valdes, who runs the place now, was a wonderful host and extremely professional. He filled our tanks, checked on us several times throughout the day, and even opened the quarry on a...

HELP! Pool 5/6 session. CANNOT get neutral. Feeling helpess.

Congrats on your success and your increased confidence!! It's amazing what you can do when you believe in your abilities!! A few comments if I may : 1. Sounds like you did fine on your weight check. Even if you sink a little below eye level then that's ok. What you want to avoid is rapidly...

NAUI DM certification - LDS or independent instructor?

Hello ScubaJill. You have received some great advice about what becoming a DM entails and the challenges you might face doing so in the Caribbean. I would certainly heed their advice. Brent has offered to meet with you as someone in your area which also seems reasonable. I will try an...

HELP! Pool 5/6 session. CANNOT get neutral. Feeling helpess.

The issue you are having is a common one among students and new divers. Don't feel demoralized. It just takes a little time and practice. Buoyancy control is a matter of balancing the positive forces (your 7 mm wet suit, BCD, etc) with the negative forces (your weight belt and tank). Neutral...

Article: Diving the Socorro Islands off of the incredible Belle Amie...

Hey Pete. I have been trying to find the link to this post you made to try and book a trip there. The link in your post does not lead to the story you wrote. I was interested in the dive op/boat you used.

    Difference between agency IDCs

Hello Max, You ask a very good question but it can be difficult to answer without knowing what is involved in the Instructor certification process for the various other agencies. Hopefully others will chime in on the process from their respective agencies. I shall try to answer the question...

    NAUI MSD and PADI Rescue

Greeting scubakev07!! If I may I will attempt to address your question from a NAUI perspective. As others have stated there is not direct comparison between the NAUI MSD course and the PADI Rescue course. They are indeed 2 separate courses. There is a NAUI Rescue Course and an Advanced...
