Can Rec divers enjoy Truk ?

Speaking from experience, Truk is definitely divable and enjoyable by a non-tec diver. I dove with Blue Lagoon and they had two boats running, one with Tec divers, the other with non tec divers on the 3 days I was there. On a side note I would definitely suggest Truk via liveaboard. The...

    Decisions on Regs

I have had a Sherwood Magnum for years (5). I honestly only have had it serviced twice (I meticulously clean and perform DIY maintenance myself) but there has never been a single issue and the techs who did service it said it was in fine shape. Im also a warm water only diver and can endorse...

    Recommendations Please

I will be in the PI, celebrating my honeymoon, March 14-30. My wife to be doesn't dive, but supports my desire to dive a couple days. She is Filipina and we will be visiting some of her friends and family so I cant vary much on the itinerary. We will have several days in an around Manila...

    12 stops to Palau???

To Honeybee: Its not too hard to get around to all of the islands you mentioned out here. The diving is top notch as a whole here in this region. I have been to all the places you have mentioned except Kosrae and would be glad to answer specific questions if you want to PM me. I could...

    Scuba College Credits

Your institution would have to accept the course for credit. Even then you would not qualify for FAFSA for the semester (or quarter) since this credit would be applied AFTER you finished and would not count as current enrollment. I played this game during my time, lol brings back memories!

Guam Hotel: needed from 6am to 7pm on the same day

Im curious, you say your coming (or going?) from Chuuk. Ive done the Guam - Chuuk flight quite often. It departs Guam around 7 am arrives Chuuk about 9am. Coming back you leave Chuuk about 3pm and get to Guam about 5pm. Unless this is a private charter, are you sure your times are correct...

    12 stops to Palau???

You are on the "Island hopper" that goes from Hawaii, thru FSM and Marshal Islands before a layover in Guam for the Palau Flight. A shorter and easier route is Hawaii to Guam direct. This flight is always full so it is more expensive, maybe your travel agent used cost as a determining factor...

Truk Lagoon Death Sept 29th, 2010

When I was out in Chuuk in early September I heard (only hearsay) a discussion in the Truk Stop restaurant about a diver having to get evaced to a chamber off a liveaboard. It was all very hush hush and no one I asked would confirm or deny anything. Im wondering if the deeper avg depths out...

    My Deep Diver course today

I agree that the scenario posted seems a bit irresponsible from my humble, non expert perspective. ( I have taken AOW and Deep Diver Courses with SSI and PADI). I dont see what the issue would be diviving from a private vessel. Isn't it just a platform? How is it different than instruction...

    Vilu Reef Maldives Marriage Hoax!

Copy of article text: "A Swiss couple who thought they were renewing their vows in a tropical ceremony were actually the subject of vicious verbal attacks by the officiator, reports the AP. In a video taken of the ceremony, the officiator chants in the local language, Dhivehi, in what...

What is your training/equipment day like?

I say wrong! If you have been through an accredited OW SCUBA program, been "blessed" with a C-card, and you cant dive in a standard rec pool unsupervised to simply test gear than Darwin's theory should just claim you.

"Drifting Dan" Carlock wins $1.68 million after being left at sea

I hate the litigious society we live in and am all for tort reform, but to leave a diver TWICE? Absolutely no excuse, deserve whatever comes there way.

    Pro Dive Closed:

While it is sad, it doesn't sound like it was any different than the thousands of other similar sad stories that are commonplace in the world of service/retail. Probably a necessary business decision, a little more notice would have been nice for staff, but it doesn't sound like anything...

I am where I wanted to be

I can't safely say yes to all of the above. I don't need or care in the least to know about diaphram piston stages. I get my gear serviced regulary, dive within my limits, and am EXACTLY where I want to be. I enjoy this HOBBY immensely (considering rec SCUBA a sport is a stretch in my...

    Greetings from Pohnpei, Micronesia.

How does diving rate against Yap, Chuuk,, or Palau? Palau was amazing, Yap a great surprise, and I found Chuuk kind of disappointing honestly. Maybe it was the fact that Chuuk had been my personal 'holy grail' of diving for years and just didn't impress like i had hoped. I would actually...

    Where to go?

I would road trip it to FL, suck it up and make a long day of driving to Jupiter/Boynton Beach and start diving and driving hitting all the spots to finish in Key Largo! Just my $.02 but it would be much more convenient than traveling by air outside the US. You would have the ability to move...
