Burning dive boat abandoned - Thailand

Does anyone have any accurate info on this latest incident? Divers, crew rescued after boat catches fire near Phi Phi

    Base for Andaman coast

Agree completely with the general consensus here. Diving in the Gulf of Thailand when at it's best can only be described as second rate. The three recognised areas in the Gulf, Koh Chang, Pattaya / Sammae San & Koh Tao, all have at least one reasonable dive site, but none of these locations in...

    Diving near Bangkok

Far Islands are no longer off limits. All Pattaya shops run trips to Samae San and in my mind is the best option available in the area for diving.

3 weeks in Andaman Sea in July - what is open?

I agree with the last post from Steven, by all means visit KT, but personally I would not recommend staying there more than a few days, there are only a handful of worthwhile dive sites, mostly you will find dive sites and boats overcrowded, I neither rate the diving there or the island, it is...

May Instructor Development Course (IDC) Davy Jones Locker, Koh Tao

This is nothing to do with my opinion, it is a fact. KT has a reputation around the world for people who have never dived before, attaining instructor qualifications by doing the absolute minimum in a short space of time, resulting in some instructors who have followed such programmes, whilst...

    Pattaya Diving

Which Islands at Samae San are affected? As I understand it, I thought all of the islands in that area are controlled by the military?

May Instructor Development Course (IDC) Davy Jones Locker, Koh Tao

Anyone who wants a serious career in diving needs a certification which will be held in high esteem world wide rather than just in KT / Thailand. My advice would be, even if initial costs are higher, do your IDC, or any other diving certification for that matter, anywhere other than KT.

    Dive Ops on Koh Tao?

koh Tao diving is really far from the best Thailand has to offer, the Andaman sea is far superior to anywhere in the Gulf of Thailand. My experience of KT diving is overcrowded boats, overcrowded dive sites and many shops seem to concentrate on bargain basement open water courses to backpackers...

    Richelieu blasted ???

I do hope this is not true. But unfortunately given the mentality of Thai people, it would not surprise me if it is.

Do you ever diving in Koh Chang,Koh Kood,Koh Mak and Koh rang?

Diving In the Koh Chang archipelago can be ok, but I would never regard it as a destination suitable for a dive specific holiday, it is just something you might do for a day or two during a trip to the area if conditions are suitable. Particularly during May - September due to high rainfall and...

Where to retire in Thailand and Dive?

If you are a serious diver and are set on Thailand as the destination for your retirement. Without question the Andaman (West) coast offers by far the best Thailand has to offer.

    Pattaya Diving

Far Islands ban may sink Pattaya’s last scuba diving - PattayaOne Does anyone know the official line about this article? If there is any truth behind this it will simply be the end of Scuba Diving in Pattaya. The near Islands consist of a handful of really poor dive sites that are full of jet...

Itinerary help for inexperienced OW diver traveling solo: AOW on liveaboard or before? Where?

You are exactly right, divers need experience, and to a point experience can be of greater significance than certifications, however if you go on a liveaboard and the operator applies PADI standards (which they all should) and limits open water divers to a depth of 18m. It will seriously...

Where to go after Koh Lanta in March?

Diving is year round. We had a dive package at Kapalai Resort. They organised / provided everything. Accommodation and food were good, diving well organised. An internet search I am sure will give you countless other options. Visibility is at it's best generally outside of rainy season, which I...

Where to go after Koh Lanta in March?

Sipadan offers great diving. Not too far from Thailand. For marine life, this has to be one of the best places I have dived.

Anyone have a dive shop or group going to Thailand in March with 2 spots?

Just go to any of the tourist spots and you will find dive centres, just go and talk to them and try a days diving, if everything is not to your liking move on to another DC. The best by far diving Thailand has to offer is the Andaman Sea. Base yourself in Phuket, Koh Lanta or one of the other...

    Best dive location in June?

For your average recreational diver, there are no more than a handfull of what might even begin to be considered decent dive sites anywhere in the Gulf. Year round the Andaman sea offers far better diving. Having said that, of course the weather can be unpredictable and mess things up from time...

    Buying small things ...

If you are going to buy online, you will probably find, even allowing for carriage charges it will be cheaper to buy from your own country. I only ever buy dive gear in Thailand out of absolute necessity, opting where possible to buy things when I am back in the UK. As you have seen...
