    Cleaning gear at home

In the summer it is fairly easy to clean gear outside in the driveway. In the winter, not so much, as you have to figure out a place and methods to not make a mess. How are you cleaning gear in the house. One thing I considered is a plastic 55 gallon drum as a soak tank, and then draining the...

Going to Aruba in September — several questions

My wife and I are going to Aruba in September, never having been diving there before. What is considered to be the best dive operation in Aruba? Is there any shore diving, or is it all boat diving? Any thoughts or advice on Aruba diving, operators, sites, places to go, things to avoid? Thank...

    Inflator valve on Zeagle Ranger

I gather there is no need to disconnect the other end of this hose assembly from the BCD?

    Inflator valve on Zeagle Ranger

It sounds like a great idea. How do I get the assembly disconnected from the BCD? I did buy it from Zeagle Express, just for your interest. I will order this item you mention from you.

    Inflator valve on Zeagle Ranger

I have a Zeagle Ranger I bought new about three years ago. It was the old style when a new version came out. A great BCD. My inflater hose valve sometimes sticks. I often have to pull out the plunger to get it to close. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to rinse, flush, and clean it...

    Cool tropical diving

Last week I had my suit on and zipped virtually the entire time out, and never got hot. I had a number of people ask, aren't you hot? The more I read here the more I think a 7mm would have been just fine. That was my feeling. I understand your readying in the sun concept from diving in August...

    Cool tropical diving

That is a very useful point.

    Cool tropical diving

No, I did not mean fat. I meant tough, or cold tolerant. There really were no people on the boats who were overweight to any meaningful degree. The divemaster who dove in trunks and a sleeveless vest was quite fit.

    Cool tropical diving

Last November we went to Bonaire where the water was 82. My 3mm was fine, but I could certainly tell I was cooling after long and cumulative dives, as we did four dives a day, and one day also a night dive. We just spent a week at Grand Cayman from March 16 to 23. The water temperature was 78...

    Developing navigation skills

I think I am doing well on those things. Perhaps a single skill I need work on is swimming along, simultaneously observing the compass and also keeping some notion of where I am.

    Developing navigation skills

Most of my diving in the summer is in quarries in the midwest, so yes. I had the good fortune during Thanksgiving week to dive for a week in Bonaire. So I got to experience currents and observe coral leaning from current.

    Developing navigation skills

My first season of diving was great fun, and I look forward to this year. I realize a huge weakness I have is navigation skills. Do you have any ideas on strategies or drills to use to most effectively learn navigation skills? Thank you.

    PADI tables finally going away?

Perhaps the move to CAD was ill advised, as pencils and T-squares can't crash like computers. Paper documents can't become corrupted, fail to open or fail to print.

    PADI tables finally going away?

No, the software is not based on tables. The software is based on science. The tables were a way to represent that science, and now the computer is the prevalent way to represent, and live with, that very important science. Today, essentially all engineering drawing is done using a kind of...

    PADI tables finally going away?

No. The tables do not form a foundation. The instruction occurring at the time forms the foundation. The table is an abstraction. An accessory. These concepts can be learned just as easily, perhaps more so, with a computer.
