Nice write up. Tulum way more convenient if you intend on doing more Cenote dives rather than ocean as they are a lot closer to Tulum.
For cave diving, loads of caves literally on the door step of Tulum.
In your original post you didnt factor in the cost of instruction. This often gets overlooked. A proper course with a proper Sidemount Instructor, preferably a technical or cave instructor also, can either make or break whether sidemount turns out being beneficial.
Sidemount is not just...
Tulum Mexico sounds like a perfect place for you to learn .
As you said you re interested in caverns, also we have some amazing sinkholes for this type of deeper training.
Also Sidemount would be a great configuration to learn and use for Advanced Nitrox and Deco Procedures.
Please get in...
Have you considered Tulum ? Closer to all the caves and cenotes . Yes it is also a party town, but you can find quieter areas,
DM if you want any more info regarding lodging, diving and or courses.
Can't go wrong with the cenotes around Tulum Mexico. Amazing dives in the jungle for all levels, plus that time of year will be Bull Shark season !!
PM if you want any more details
As an Instructor with over 15 years of experience, I would hold fire with getting your child certified at just 11 years old. As you've said, still going to be diving with a professional and parent not going to be going deeper than 12 metres. I'd recommend just doing a Discover dive skills review...
Yeah I get that....But Malta doesn't have the complex navigation to make a full cave course challenging and therefore loses a lot of its value.
As for doing Intro and Full Cave on the same trip, here in Mexico most of the best instructors prefer separate courses. With time in between to practice...
For ease of travel, the island of Gozo in Malta would be a good bet. Can do up to intro to cave there and gain experience at that level before maybe going further away for another trip.
Mexico offers amazing full cave diving with great training conditions and opportunity to really learn...
No, that's not the case, we don't take non certified cave divers beyond the day light zone.
I'm not saying it has never happened, it has with disastrous consequences.
The vast majority of us dive shops in the area take safety as a number 1 priority and adhere to very strict rules to keep our...
I would say, "why the rush to get the kid certified"?
So yeah of course he wants to be able to to go diving, but he doesn't have to be certified for that.
A good Discover Scuba diving experience with a little bit of buoyancy work aswell will get him diving. Most of the theory and extra skills...
The cenotes are amazing and there is wildlife to been seen not as prominent as the ocean but its there. Mainly in the openings where there is light. Also important is what company you go with. A big company with a tight time schedule to stick to isnt the best idea. You'll want a relaxed guide...
Which leaves option #1 as the most plausible. So now you have to determine which way is out, left or right. There aren’t many things you can do, but I came up with two.
First, you should have a sense of direction where the exit is (or a compass bearing). Like I know that it’s somewhere to the...
