I recommend you buy another 2nd stage identical to the one you use as a primary. If too $$$ seek same from classified ads here or e-bay. Advantage comes in play during maintenance, and your familiarity with your primary.
Say what you want about the No Problem and it's 10:00 am departure, but if there is one saving grace about a slow and late departing vessel it is that the No Problem is the only BA boat with a head. Not so much an issue for me, but ask my wife who after diving from the Jibara learned of the No...
Night diving is one of my favorite kinds of diving.
I dive an area that I know well already from having been there several times before [during the day].
I find that it relaxes me more and allows for greater enjoyment of a smaller area than diving during the day.
My favorite of all night...
Fair winds forever. I had several conversations with Doc regarding our common experiences in Honduras. RIP, and may we meet at the great reef in the sky.
OP is looking for a regulator that can take abuse on the maintenance side and will safely work for light recreational diving. He suggested the SP Mk2 as well as the SP Mk25 and several SP diaphragm first stages like the Mk11 and Mk17. He is seeking SP, which as we all know is good, reliable...
For the type of diving you are describing, I agree a Mk 2 is sufficient. I would pair it with a balanced 2nd stage, like a G250/260/500, and call it a near perfect warm water recreational rig.
Bonaire and Cozumel are two great choices, both offering some of the best of the Caribbean. I would also suggest Cuba's Jardines de la Reina and the Island of Culebra off of Puerto Rico.
And here I would differ. Equating knowledge of diving tables is in no way "dangerous equipment or practice". It is a fundamental block of understanding our sport. Granted the tables are based upon fewer tissues, and gas absorption/ diffusion rates than are computer algorithms [and there are...
Spending classroom time going over the time/depth = pressure group [X,Y,Z], surface interval reducing that residual nitrogen level to pressure group [A,B,C] helps the student to visualize and learn the potential harm that may occur to the body if NDL time is exceeded. There is really no need to...
Knowledge of the diving tables provides the basis of knowing safety limits [as pertains to nitrogen] while diving. A noobs reliance upon computers without first having learned the laws of physics and physiology of nitrogen absorption is a disservice to the student. Teach the tables.
Many of us who received standard OW training in the 1960s and 1970s were trained by ex-military instructors. While there was some "hazing" during stations [e.g. masks removed, cylinder valves turned down/off] it was never done in a negative manner. If your instructor is humiliating your...
Pacific coasts of Costa Rica and Panama. Dive Coiba in RP, Isla del Caño in C.R. Go to Carnival in Las Tablas, RP, tour the Canal, visit San Jose, C.R. , etc. Great places to visit in January and February. Also motorcycle friendly.
