The eternal question... Neoprene or Trilam drysuit?

I've had a neoprene, sold that dog and purchased another trilam. Wifes last trilam lasted 12 years, I'm on year 7 of my dui flx, diving every weekend and it's going strong

I had Spontaneous Pneumothorax left and right lungs 15 years ago, can i scuba dive like 15 feet?

Since you are asking randoms over the net instead of a medical doctor who is familiar with you, your past medical history and current medications and state. My opinion is no, but that snorkeling on the surface is fine and honestly you can see almost as much from there at many sites.

The Third Dive: The Death of Rob Stewart

Zero chance I'd watch a show by rosborne after reading his huffpo article about carlos death. Taking a clear fatality from breathing the wrong gas, confirmed by an expert and threading in mystery or uncertainty to pique interest is lame. No reason to watch the same unsupported questions and...

The Pure Pleasure Of Diving Alone. [Poll]

Enjoy diving alone but would never recommend or encourage it for anyone else. It feels amazing, cutting off the scooter and just drifting out thousands of feet in quiet silence while enjoying the view. It's my favorite way to decompress from a weeks stress at work. That being said, if you dive...

Fatal Record attempt in Garda Lake Italy

You'all are delusional about this "research". These are ego driving dumb dives, dr deep, this one...always the same story, pictures of gauges and how great someone is. There is no "research" at all going on here, that's a stupid claim by folks reaching for some logical reason for doing this...

    Solo Without an Octo

I keep my regs set normally, one for each side of manifold. Gives me two options breathing from doubles, can isolate to stop problems. Usually sling stage for bailout/buddy bottle.

    Scuba DPV under $1000?

uv26's run about 1k used right now with decent batteries. It's a bummer on land at 95# but I love the ride, always choose my uv over t16.

Why not SPG under the left arm to left Chest D ring?

Once you get used to it on your left hip D ring I don't see any reason to change it that doesn't come with downsides.

I'm an instructor, I'm planning a 7'ish yr working-vaction, and I'm looking for location ideas!

Agree with prior post, not only galapagos/ecuador but many other locations will not allow you to work as a foreigner.

Deep Air Dives In Tech Classes

I used to dive deeper on air when I was younger, it was dumb then and it still is nowadays. At least then trimix wasn't as available. Seems to me if you can't afford trimix for >150' dives you are taking too much risk using air. Some folks like to base jump, others raise cobras as pets, knock...

    I'm hooked.... how to progress

You're in the northwest, first thing I'd do is get a good drysuit and get good in it. Take a gue fundamentals class, regardless of where you get further cave training, this is a great step I encourage everyone to do. Get really solid in your drysuit with doubles and light in open water. There...

    First low-air experience went great!

Running out of gas is a really bad thing, it should never happen. This is why people drown at the surface or drift down into lost forever. You are way too calm in your post regarding this incident. The fact your instructors didn't message you back immediately, concerned about this dive and your...

Bonaire Crime - Our experience - Looking for input to share

What are your thought on releasing accident information?

I think most just have a morbid need to convince themselves that what occurred would never happen to them, a proactive vaccination against death. It's a cultural norm, we ignore deaths march till the very end. The eagles nest goofball took a damn child into the cave for starters, avoided...

    Backup Compass and Depth Gauges

    Non DIR doubles rig?

You can run whatever hoses you'd like, however I find that for ow a 5' main and standard short backup to a necklace meet all my needs. Also, doesn't change for tech/cave diving, easier to share air...no downsides I've found.

Is limited solo diving completely insane for a new diver?

The advice to get 100 dives before solo is pretty good. You can accelerate this learning by paying for instruction, find a solo friendly instructor, pay them to learn. You need a redundant gas supply. I'd recommend starting with a 40cu ft stage, pay someone to train you on slinging and...

Finder's fee for recovered camera- is it appropriate?

I've no problem with the "ransom". Most people losing equipment deserve to pay for it's recovery, they shouldn't be losing gear. It's a clear indicator they are totally over their head and likely unaware of their inadequacies. Nowadays divers with under 20 dives are jumping in with all sorts...
