Restricted area permit - Andaman Islands?

Exactly. Just fly into Port Blair with your valid Indian Visa, and they will give you a 30 day Andaman visa on arrival. Nicobar however, is a different story :)

    Havelock or Neil

Both are great. Neil island itself is less developed and the surrounding waters are less explored. Go with Dive India. Go to up Havelock first, then cruise to Neil. They have resorts on both islands.

    looking for a job!

Barracuda is excellent. The most experienced DC in India (est 1994 i think), with a range of PADI IDCS and OWSI instructors. Recently began to offer SSI certs also. I know they were advertising for instructors a few months ago, and were preferring people with both SSI and PADI credentials...

    Kerala, India - October

Wow, pretty old thread to dig up mate. There has been recreational diving offered in India for 15 years now. But indeed, the past 5 years has seen a boom. And yes, there is a guy offering scuba in Kerala now. Started in 2008 and dives inland quarries/lakes. Almost all Indian centres are...

    Diving in India

As far as i'm aware, the Lakshadweep islands are closed to diving until further notice. Best to contact Lacadives, Lacadives: The Pioneers of Diving in India Since 1995 for more up-to-date info and possible trips. Andamans are much improved on the past few years and well worth diving. Try Dive...

Compressor not turning freely - NEED HELP

Strange that it's "sometimes more and some less". Generally mechanical fouling will be in a very similar or same position and the crank goes through it's 360 rotation. If it turns fine when out of the block, you may need to look at any interference with the barrels or crank ends, and re-check...

    T Shirt diver

There are many areas known as SA. Which one do you mean mate? Alot of people i know dive with just t-shirts on (sometimes also pants). But maybe you mean collecting t-shirts from different dive spots?

    ending dives with sharks circling?

Indeed. But i think they only attack if you piss in a rental or borrowed wetsuit. If it's your own, they don't seem to mind so much. :fishslap:

    Diving in Sri Lanka

Beauty is right. Maldives are excellent. A little more expensive. But Sri Lanka of course has an entire country and culture to explore at the same time (Not that Maldives dosn't!! Just most people go there specifically for the diving/surfing and beaches). The best diving in march will...

nitrogen accumulation ? time vs air quantity.

Jonah. Listen to Thal. Here and elsewhere. He has alot of answers to the questions you are always searching for. Remember the tables? Only depth and time, plus some SI and RNT for subsequent dives. Nothing mentioned about gas consumption. And of course the special rules - ie add 4m to...

    Diving in India

Bangalore for 2 years and you've never tried Pondicherry? It's closer than Goa! Yes, a shameless plug, but we do have excellent diving here. In saying that, the Lakshwadeep islands are great, and Goa's shallow wreck and reefs make terrific sites for DSD and OW. Like Luko said, Andamans are not...

DIY DPV - Oldie but a goodie

At one time, through some random board adventures, i came across a great plan/instructional guide to building a DPV. They seemed to be well aged, perhaps 70s, exciting me even more. From memory they were also found on ebay. Anyway, i lost them and now can't re-find them! Any ideas?

    Is AOW necessary?

All of these points are fair enough. But in the end, when you travel, and dive at different sites, areas, countries and of course dive centres, it does give a little reference to the people who take you out, and have no idea of your quality or experience in diving. A log book is great for this...
