    Another one I don't know

Here is another fish I couldn't identify It was found in Roatan, Honduras. I think we were about 20-30 feet. It was about 2 inches long and pretty much sitting there on top of a bit of the reef. When he moved he sort of swam/hopped along like a blenny. Unfortunately the other pics were...

    Lobster? Crab?

Here is a creature we came across on a night dive in Roatan Honduras last week on a site called Newman's Wall - if I remember right we were somewhere around 45 feet when we came across this. I seem to remember it being more yellow than the picture shows, but obviously what my eyes see and what...

UK SL4 LED w/cree R2 and LEDs for halcyon scout

I got my lights the other day. Thanks for answering my questions and making the whole transaction fast and painless. The torches have very impressive output and I look forward to using them soon. The only thing that I'm a bit concerned about is that there is considerable force required to...

Nitrox O2 analyzer - do I need one

As I understand it the advantage of the "Old style" case is that it's a bit larger and the new style case simply won't fit the assembled kit. OxyCheq did say some modification to the foam would be necessary too. The cost was the same as the new case - $14.00

Nitrox O2 analyzer - do I need one

I contacted OxyCheq - the customer service was excellent. I got quick answers to my questions and once I placed the order, it was shipping within hours. I asked:if the “important parts” are identical between the El Cheapo II and the Expedition and said that the information I am...

Nitrox O2 analyzer - do I need one

Think I'm going to go with an El Cheap-O II, with the BC flow restrictor and cap and the Expedition case it's about half the cost of the Expedition. I'm just going to contact OxyCheq to make sure I understand the differences between the two. I'll post the answers I get.

Nitrox O2 analyzer - do I need one

Thanks all for the replies - for now I'll just use the one at the LDC and for my upcoming trip to Roatan, which I'm taking through the LDC, I'll make sure that the owner, who is coming along, brings one that our group can use. It would seem to me that if I calibrate the sensor, analyze the mix...

Nitrox O2 analyzer - do I need one

I'm taking a Nitrox course and reading the book before the class starts. It indicates I need to analyze the O2% to verify the contents myself. What is the usual method; do I need to buy an analyzer or do you just borrow one where it got filled? Thanks.

    Miami Beach short notice Diving

Hi, I'll be visiting Miami Beach for a short time at the end of this week and I'm wondering if I can find a place to dive on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning, time permitting. Any recommendations? Thanks!

New to the Site and to Diving

I'm not saying do or don't do the AOW, you can find plenty of threads addressing that question by searching, but I will suggest you ask yourself why you want to do AOW. If it's because you want to go deeper then from a safety issue many will warn against that, and for good reason. From another...

    OW Final Exam This Weekend!!

As I recall you'll definitely see some questions requiring use of the RDP and questions about the relationships of depth, pressure and volume such as what size will the balloon be at the surface vs. at 66 feet and if you use X amount of air in 20 minutes at 33 feet, how much will you use at 66...

Trip Report: St. Kitts, Pro Divers

Thanks - that's also another reason I like this hobby - it's one that can include a setting my wife also enjoys.

Trip Report: St. Thomas USVI, Coki Beach

Just returned from a Caribbean cruise that included a stop in St. Thomas. Before leaving on our trip we arranged to dive with Coki Beach Dive Club but after going I found that arranging it before hand really isn't necessary; although I'm sure they appreciate knowing that you are coming...

Trip Report: St. Kitts, Pro Divers

I recently returned from a cruise to the Caribbean with stops in a few islands. We dove St. Kitts and St. Thomas. I will cover St. Thomas in another thread. We dove St. Kitts with Pro Divers. The op is owned/run by Austin, his wife Margot handled the reservations, Germaine was the mate...

    Ship Dive Gear To Cozumel

With all due respect - and I mean this sincerely; you're going to Cozumel for a week you only plan to dive one day carrying dive gear is a pain Either you want to dive or you don't - but if you do go diving, enjoy the dive and don't start bitching about how hard it is to carry the gear or how...

Wing lift - the X factor

Thanks Tobin. The point of my post (in this thread - not the other) wasn't to try and figure out the weight requirement of that suit but to point out that there may be test results out there that give the info the OP was looking for. Alas, so far my own searching didn't turn up much for...

Wing lift - the X factor

LOL - that's the original question isn't it? ;) Seriously though - being brand new to diving I had no idea and so I wondered what it might be and looked it up. I didn't search to find out what a 5 or 7 mil suit would be but maybe that data is outhere also.

Wing lift - the X factor

Well, even if manufacturers don't publish it, some people do test it and publish the results. From another thread I wrote titled Bare Velocity 3/2 => No extra lead If the test results of "no inherent buoyancy" at the surface are accurate, and surely the suit has buoyancy, but it's equal...
