I think it's a claw core, but I'm not sure. There's a bunch of fossil material both in the Gulf and in the Caloosahatchee River in Ft Myers.
Check out the Venice Fossil Hunters Forum for some examples of what they find just up the coast from you.
You can pretty much write off the Suwannee and it's tributaries for the next month or so. We made a trip out to Pensacola Saturday, and from the flooding I saw, it's my guess that most everywhere to the east of St Marks and north of Cedar Key is going to be blown. Everything west of...
If I had a 5 day layover in Miami, I'd spend it in the Keys. There's a lot of cool stuff where I am in North Florida, but it's a 6 hour trip up here. I've never had any trouble amusing myself anywhere between Key Largo and Key West.
It's one of the old 7/8" valve PST 3500 psi tanks. If it's 28" tall, it's probably a 120.
Take some good measurements on both tanks and then compare them here.
+1
What size tank are you using? Longer and thinner tanks may help.
You can try a crotch strap, adjusting it and your shoulder straps can help keep the tank lower on your back.
I noticed you don't have a lot of dives yet, it may just be that you need to get more experience in your gear...
Here's how I rig mine for fishing and diving in the Gulf. You may have to experiment with the number of cable ties to match your boat and anchor. This allows you to put the motor in gear and break the cable ties. The anchor then flips out of what ever it's hung up in.
I first mark the spot...
Had to dig out the log book from my March of 1979 NASDS class.
5 weeks of classes-5 Tuesday nights in the classroom, 5 Thursday nights in the pool.
5 Saturdays of open water checkouts:
Week 1: Crystal River (Mullet Springs)
Week 2: Manatee
Week 3: Troy Springs (60 ft low viz dive on a...
As has been noted, everyone's tolerance for cold varies, but based on my 35+ years of diving in North Florida, you are going to need at least a 3mm for most of the diving you do. In the Gulf or one of the rivers I get by in the summer with a shorty 3mm, but in the winter or in the one of the...
They are almost certainly PST 3500 psi tanks and you will not be able to adapt a yoke to them. You'll need to get a din regulator or have your existing reg converted to din. If they are PST's, they'll have a 7/8" thread valve instead of the more common 3/4" valve , so you will not be able to...
Quote from the email I just got from XS Scuba: "They are for sure in stock, though they may need to be added to the PDF catalog."
XS Scuba has a dealer locator here
I emailed XS Scuba- I'll let you know what they say.
I talked to Wayne over at Amigo's, and he said he thought we could get the valve, but we did not actually try to order one.
The reg is missing the perforated purge button from the end - I'm going to go back over there and look around the barn for it, but I don't have much hope of finding it.
I don't ever see myself trying to put it back in service, but it would be nice to have all the parts.
I have thought about...
Yes, it's a 72 with the 1/2" pipe threads. I've got another similar tank I've had for years, it's a 1959 USD with the same valve, but does not have Rene's name on it. I've attached a few pics.
Are these the tapered threads or the straight ones?
Just found a 1955 US divers tank in my father in laws barn. It still has the tank bands, cotton web harness and an aquamatic regulator attached. The tank has the original hydro date of 11-55, with no newer dates stamped in it.
It has the West Pico Blvd. address, with just "Rene" instead of the...
