Poll: Were you OW trained to standards?

What eventually made me feel more confident and safe are these : 1. gas planning, basically the rock bottom planning 2. proper steps and practice to handle some form of failure in water: buddy system failure (lost of buddy); gas share initialed at different time of the dive, not just kneel at...

Poll: Were you OW trained to standards?

I want to say I was trained to standard because my AOW was so much below standard, I felt like I didn’t learn one single thing. I didn’t feel i want to name the instructor publicly, but if anyone is considering in my area, please feel free to PM me. The reason I took AOW was because I didn’t...

Absolute temperature unit is "K", right?

    Preventing webbing from fraying

lighter has been working great for me. I think the trip is to melt a bit more then just the cut edge, then while nylon still in melten state, use something flat to "compress" if this make sense. 14 years of diving, I don't think I ever have the issue.

Switching gas with 2 bottles and SMB

Definitely pass the smb to a team mate who just completed gas switch, then you can switch. I somehow don't think this is a very difficult situation at all. Even in training way before tech, we were hit by combinational issue from instructor, like ascending with SMB, then out of gas team mate...

    DIY Backplate covers

If I can find Ti backplate can give me any advantages at all, I may just get one for the "My precious" effect, but I cannot. It is 1.5x+ the weight of AL. I even have a Ti STA, which I don't use at all. I use AL as travel, SS+lead insert at home water

    2023 Light Travel Regulator Recs

Once I learned how to adjust AA properly, I can strike a reasonable balance between breathing effort and free flow now. I typically leave the know all the way out all the time tho. I have M1 Tees on all AA 2nd stage now. Mon M1 knob is a bit too short, with the M1 Tee, it becomes harder to...

Atomic B2 or Scubapro Mk25/A700 Owners: Pro / Cons

hmm, I think both are good choice. so it really come down to your preference. I have AA, and SP25/G250V. I like them both. If I have to pick one for ease of breathing, I will say mk25/G250V edge out AA. Now if you present AA and SP25/A700 choices to me, I will take SP25/A700 just because I...

    DIY Backplate covers

For DIYer, a lot of what we do isn't about practicality, it is the hobby. OP could have bought for less money if pad is what he/she wants. I recently mess with Titanium d rings (withou success :(). If I really need Ti d-ring, I should have bought from Helium and call it done.

    2023 Light Travel Regulator Recs

Not in that incident. I found the AA adjustment knob does very little actual adjustment. It was definitely my fault to begin with, inexperience of tuning 2nd stage

    2023 Light Travel Regulator Recs

This is an extremely good point. I have had my atomic adjusted too hot. It appears to be OK on the first couple of dive, then start to free flow on any disturbance. I was hesitate to mess with it on a boat. Quite a few very tiny parts inside, I once try diagnose one in a trip and lost the...

    2023 Light Travel Regulator Recs

Title of the tread is travel light weight reg. I think I have shown going from "normal" brass set to full Titanium set, you save 1/2lb. Cost for that is additional $1500+. I would say don't choose the extreme heavy stiff like those Tungsten model, just go with normal brass one, you get best...

    DIY Backplate covers

Have you tried it? I have one concern. If you are diving without any suit, the plastic book screws seem to rest against your back, could be uncomfortable? I would think the Halcyon's inifinity design, fold the edge of the pad to the back, so book screws are under the pad maybe more comfortable.

    goodman handle use tips?

I almost want to say the fit of the Goodman play a role here. If it feel like slipping off, my guess is the height and width are too large. Height can usually be adjusted, width, you have to find one that fits. In my limited experience, light monkey one with well with my hand width wise. For...

    goodman handle use tips?

Hmm I think this will be an issue. You will need to do some mod to make the screw recessed enough. Overall good concept, but detail isn’t correct.

What is the actual problem beside “you hate it”? We can only help with a technical problem, not an emotional problem.

    Apple Watch Ultra 2

I really like the idea here, but I think the weak link is Oceanic software. I really wish they can have time average depth and stop watch feature, at least in gauge mode.

    Closed Short Aluminum Backplate

I think weight is way off here. Al small/short plate cannot be 3lb, not even half of it. More like 1.2lb-ish. Including the hardness (DIR style with can light buckle and crotch strap), it is more like 3lb-8oz. DiveRite regular size SS plate is 5lb-1oz. Small is more like 4lb-2oz. Nowhere...

    Closed Short Aluminum Backplate

The picture looks like a copy of Halcyon small plate, which is 14-1/8' long, 9-1/4' wide at the bottom widest part.
