    Waterproof ultimate dive travel wallet?

Not a bad suggestion, although I'm still holding out for the magic dive wallet/binder of my dreams. :)

    Waterproof ultimate dive travel wallet?

On dive trips I find myself stashing all of my important stuff in my dive log binder. They're really handy for the non-diving parts of my trip, such as at the airport for keeping track of boarding passes, travel manifests, reservation documents, passport, cash in various currencies, credit...

Where does the 60ft/minute ascent rule come from?

No, most people won't admit they're confused because they don't want to be judged. Me? I don't care if people judge me, I'd rather be clear on the answer than worry about what people will think about me. Thanks for the explanation.

Where does the 60ft/minute ascent rule come from?

I thought it was pretty clear I'm missing his description. :)

Where does the 60ft/minute ascent rule come from?

how much? :) I think you're describing log(x): (http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=logx+from+1+to+8) But you're saying you're describing e^x: (http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=e%5Ex+from+1+to+8) One of those will get you bent more than the other, I imagine. Sorry if this sounds like...

Where does the 60ft/minute ascent rule come from?

Ha! :) I'm confused. You're say exponential but it seems like you're describing a logarithmic curve? So what I'm gathering from this thread is that not only don't people put too much faith in the models, but that there isn't even a compelling heuristic. Maybe there's space for someone to...

    Why don't whales get DCI?

    Cool! Thanks!

    Why don't whales get DCI?

Whales are mammals that breathe air and can dive 10,000 feet. This question applies to all undersea creatures, really. How are they so robust and we humans so fragile?

Where does the 60ft/minute ascent rule come from?

Thank you (everyone) for your informative replies. I guess my question finds its basis in how surprised I was at how opposed the ZHL model is with other dive safe recommendations. Is there a currently accepted best practice model/algorithm I should be evaluating instead? Following a...

Where does the 60ft/minute ascent rule come from?

No offense but... says who? And how do they know?

Where does the 60ft/minute ascent rule come from?

Fascinating story, but it sounds like you're saying the 60'/min ascent rule is about as scientifically valid as an old wives' tale? I can imagine the no swimming 30 minutes after eating tale having a similar basis. ;) It'd be nice to find some real evidence, since if one relies on the ZHL-16...

During dives, most carribean divemasters wear what looks like

Yup, it was a rashguard. Thanks guys and gals!

    Aspirin for DCI?

I read in "Shadow Divers" that John Chatterton, who served as a medic in the armed services, administered a handful of aspirin to a diver that had missed their deco-stop on a deep wreck dive. Are NSAIDs a common first-aid for suspected DCI?

Where does the 60ft/minute ascent rule come from?

What's the scientific basis for PADI's(?) 60ft/minute ascent rule? I'm a bit confused about its origins and what concerns are recommending it. Freedivers certainly bust it and the Bühlmann decompression algorithm doesn't specify any kind of 60ft/min ascent rule. Bühlmann (ZHL-16, for instance)...

During dives, most carribean divemasters wear what looks like

Some kind of UnderArmour t-shirt. Are they trying to look cool, or are they wearing a specific kind of shirt for some kind of performance benefit? I prefer not to wear a wetsuit when I dive in warm water, but the rest of the divers would prefer I wear clothes, so I think I'm settled on wearing...

    Insuring dive gear

As the rest of you I've invested a lot of resources in my dive gear (time, energy, money, etc.). On the way back from the keys this weekend (c/o awesome folks at Rainbow Reef Dive Center!), I was struck by an uneasy feeling as I handed my dive gear bag over to a shifty looking airport thrower...
