    valium and diving

Have you talked to your doctor about scopolamine nasal spray? I have a friend who's used it with excellent success. I got a prescription, but I've never had to use it, so I can't give a first hand evaluation of it's effectiveness for me.

Water getting into the nose section of my mask

I have found that if I inadvertently place the mask strap a little too low on the back of my head, my mask will leak at the nose. You might try experimenting with that.

The Fling vs divers with special needs

Before entering the water, I can walk with my torso angled down a bit which diverts a lot of the direct downward pressure from my spine. I don my BC as close to the entry point as possible and move very carefully on deck, usually with one of my dive buddies nearby in case of a sudden lurch in...

The Fling vs divers with special needs

No, I've never been to the Flower Gardens. That's one of the reasons I am so disappointed. The Fling's policy may be well warranted, but it just seems misleading that they claim to be able to meet the needs of special needs divers if in fact they can not. I'm not trying to beat a dead horse...

The Fling vs divers with special needs

I have back problems which prevent me from wearing BC and tanks while I climb the ladder after the dive, so I let my dive buddy board before me and hand my tanks off to him/her before climbing the ladder myself. I intended to dive the Flower Garden Banks earlier this year aboard the Fling...

Interesting Times on Commercial Dive Ship

Actually, I am a subcontractor for one of the contractors. I don't know any of the Oceaneering management. I'd love to meet some of them, though.

Interesting Times on Commercial Dive Ship

One of the more amusing stories the Sat Tech told me about is listening to divers have an argument inside the Sat chamber. They sound like screaming chipmunks. That must be a hoot to hear!

Interesting Times on Commercial Dive Ship

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this post, but it seemed less out of place here than any other. I just spent a week commissioning an electronic monitoring system for the Saturation System on a huge commercial dive ship. As an open water recreational diver, I was fascinated to...

    Scuba Diving in Kansas

I didn't realize you had water in Kansas. :D

How many countries have you been to?

I feel cheated. Only 6. However, because of family considerations, I have always refused overseas job assignments.

Descending on my first night dive?

On my first night dive, I couldn't figure out why I felt so overweighted until I realized that my UK 8 cell dive light is probably 2 pounds negative. If you are properly weighted in the daytime, but still underweighted at night with a dive torch, perhaps practice and breath control, not added...

Are you wearing snorkel while SCUBA diving?

I hated having that thing slapping around my head all the time. Now, Ijust carry a folding snorkel in my BC pocket. It might be a bit cumbersome to pull out if I'm wearing 5mm gloves, but at least it's there.

I wish my nitrox card was yellow and green

With all due respect, are you saying that certifications are of no value? I am a relatively new diver. Should I not do cavern, rescue, or O2 certs? What's the alternative, diving without any training?

How to use a diver watch bezel like a Rolex submariner????

Here's how I would use a Rolex submariner. Step one: Sell it. Step two buy a good dive watch for 1/10th the price. Step 3: Buy a boat with the money I have left over.

Sailboat Runs over DiveFlags at BHB

Engine running or not, every Captain's first duty is to avoid a collision. There is no disputing that in the law, it's the number one rule of the road. It's a tough call when the sailboat is not abiding by the diver down flags (which it is obliged to do). It's the classic case of the good guy...

    Screws turning with divers down

The seas were less than 1'. The boat could have easily been fended off with a gaff.

    Screws turning with divers down

I recently did a Gulf of Mexico platform dive with some friends in a private boat. The boat owner is a very experienced diver (25+ years) and was solo spearfishing. I, my dive buddy, and a non-diver were waiting in the boat for the owner to surface, when the boat drifted near the platform...

    Back Roll and a Flip?

This is good enough for me to steal and put on my facebook page.

    I float like a cork.

If you know how much weight you need, don't let the divemaster tell you how much weight you should carry. That's your call, not his. If he disagrees, you can squash him like a bug.

    Back Roll and a Flip?

"Style" is not my concern here.
