    Morehead City / Camp Lejeune / Jacksonville - June 24-27 (mid-week)

PC, you will be about equidistant from both Morehead and Wilmington from Lejeune. Probably wont be any practical difference in your travel time going through the base like the rest of us poor sots cant anymore. So you could easily do both from where you are staying. You, being of northern...

suggest your favorite dive destination...help me out!

Hi Craig :) i prefer Little Cayman, GC is just too busy and congested. And while the company was mighty good at LCBR, I really preferred Pirates Point. Two long dives a day, you manage your own profile, a late lunch, then chill. And an amazing chef. With child or not? LC is my top pick...

suggest your favorite dive destination...help me out!

How far are you willing to go Marci? Seems that a lot of the suggested trips are long haul trips. And if you have never been on a 24 to 36 hour door to door journey, IMHO they kind of suck and are not worth it for 2 weeks trips. Do you want to be warm? Or doesn't matter?

Considering a Morehead City August trip

Sharks are wonderful! Especially the Sandies. They are generally very serene and oblivious to your existence unless you are holding a freshly speared fish. Maybe you can dive a site or two first which are likely to have one, not 50. Perhaps watching some You Tube videos of the sharks...

    Migraines triggered by diving.

BEAT DOOK! I wasn't breath holding, but I think I may have been breathing too shallow upon ascent. For me, what I changed was to implement a longer safety stop at 15 - 20 feet, slowed my ascent after my mid depth, and focused on full/slightly exaggerated exhalations while ascending. Those...

    Migraines triggered by diving.

Seems that since you had an uneventful dive history prior to the dive associated migraines, an eval is in order and I would also bark up the TMJ tree first. Also keep in mind the theoretical risk of triptans interfering with off gassing due to the vasoconstriction they cause. I had a bubble...

    Little Cayman cell phone coverage

That is why I said "I think" instead of I know. I know it is 50 cents per text outgoing when roaming internationally, and less for incoming, just don't recall the amount. But certainly has been the best and most affordable way for me to keep in touch while there. i didn't find that Skype...

    Little Cayman cell phone coverage

I have stayed all over that island and your Verizon phone will work fine. Mine is a quad band, so will work everywhere. BUT. I would recommend turning your data roaming settings off for your trip and making sure that you are enabled for international calling (call Verizon). If you do not...

    Beware of French Lady

Some of us girls think a dive in ripping current is a good time. And I love drift diving. It is like a vacation to me. Relax and enjoy the ride. Here at home, if the current is ripping, we have to stay put on the wreck and get back to the boat. Now that's hard. I do think that some ops do...

    Myrtle Beach worth diving?

What Tom said. We have sharkage. None of that mamby pamby choreographed sharkage either. But it is big boy diving for sure. On a good day, I like diving NC better than anything else. I haven't been diving out of Myrtle Beach as I dive mostly in Morehead and occasionally in Wilmington...

Suggestions on Diving Outer banks Cape Hatteras

I'd go ahead and make contact sooner than later. Hatteras is running one boat short this summer and a lot of weekends are full already. Will be important to spell out whether or not you are interested in doing rec or tech dives as they do a lot of both up there. Have fun!

Looking for a good dive in NC.

If you could provide a bit more detail about your experience and training/certs, I'm sure that many of us will be able to guide you in the right direction. Not all dives/ops here are appropriate for every diver. Most require AOW at a minimum or some evidence of deeper dives in the ocean...

    Is www.maldivesdivetravel.com safe and reliable?

Given that the Maldives are composed of 26 atolls and 1192 islands, I would highly recommend that you do a liveaboard in order to see and appreciate the diversity of the diving available there. Otherwise you will see only a small snapshot. I had a great experience with the Explorer Ventures...

Got some gear and signed up for AOW!

Welcome to Scuba Board. For what it is worth, I personally don't think it makes a hill of beans worth of difference what agency you use. What does matter is your instructor, and what you do with the knowledge you gain. Most of what I have learned about diving has been from diving with really...

Diver in a down current - best action to take?

Nice topic, thanks. I had always wondered what I would do in this situation, and my intuition was that I would do exactly what I do when caught in a rip tide. It is a bit counterintuitive to let yourself be carried until you can swim at 90 degrees to it. But I have had a lot of practice here...

Got some gear and signed up for AOW!

Here in NC we do tend to take AOW rather quickly, as most of the operators on the coast require it for us to dive our local dive environment. I took my AOW course with just a few dives under my belt, then the following summer I took a proper wreck course down at the coast with a tech/cave...
