Best place(s) to dive in the US?

Okay, so I got my OW and AOW last summer...and my husband just finished his OW. Last week, we came back from our *first ever* scuba vacation in Turks and Caicos, and the experience was beautiful. Needless to say, plenty of overseas places will eventually be on the list (Red Sea, Bonaire, etc...

Going to Provo (T&C) on the 8th!

Thanks to all for the advice...just got back - and had a wonderful time. No pics yet (the group is compiling them, nothing to be ready for about 4 weeks.) BUT - we went out with Dive Provo and the sites were terrific. Saw nurse sharks, turtles, a family of dolphins (while we were on the boat...

    5MM - too heavy for T&C?

Hey, just got back. Water was great (around 81) and honestly, the 5MM worked perfectly! Some of my fellow divers with 3MM complained about occasional cold, and the suit also of course helped protect against any inadvertent contact with coral. 5MM did well with me...! (And T&C was gorgeous.)

    5MM - too heavy for T&C?

Okay, so we're heading for T&C this next weekend (our first scuba diving vacation ever!) I'm used to diving in the northeast, and the thinnest suit I have is a Henderson 5MM. Will it be too hot for T&C, and should I buy a quickee 3MM or even skin? Thanks in advance for any information!:D

Would a "chicken vest" work for NY scuba diving?

So, was just complaining today to a fellow diver that I hate how restricted I feel in my 7mm Farmer Jane and Hood. Hard to move (feel like Michael Keaton in the original Batman), and have really restricted arm and neck movement. He mentioned to me that maybe I'd be better off with a chicken...

My husband's certifying in OW today!

and...he certified!!! (And we're both sunburned to a pink crisp) :))))

My husband's certifying in OW today!

Great weekend...and round two of hubbie's certification. All went well! (As well as needed, anyway!) Yes, he *still* ended up with 45lbs of weights. (My dive master has declared his older, but rarely used Farmer John suit to be the culprit due to the types of materials used in the...

    How's the diving around Scotland?

Wild question (since we currently live in NY) - but we've been to Edinburgh a few times, and do love it. Hubbie and I have talked a few times about relocating...and wondered how the diving was in the area. (We're new divers, but want to continue the sport, and would hate to move somewhere...

New Yorkers - where do you go diving locally?

For me, it's Beach 8 on Long Island. But I've heard great things about Dutch Springs in PA...!

Going to Provo (T&C) on the 8th!

Okay, this is it! My first real scuba vacation, after certifying last summer in Long Island with both my OW and AOW. (Hubbie's getting his OW next week, so that it'll be a couples thing.) What to expect? We'll be there a week, and so far in my (very short) diving career, I've basically...

My husband's certifying in OW today!

I know - it's the weirdest thing. The instructor that was testing him is significantly heavier than he is. When his weight didn't work, they switched BCDS and belts, and then piled it on from there. He kept floating up, until they got to 43lbs...!

My husband's certifying in OW today!

Hi Pete - No problem at all with the referral - our Dive Master is the trip organizer, too! :) But we'd love to get it done beforehand, so that the "work" is out of the way, and the instructors won't have to take time off from their vacation to do the OW..!

My husband's certifying in OW today!

Thanks all...we're going to check out that video on equalizing, too. Bad news is that the visibility was nil today, so we had to postpone for next weekend. We really want to get him certified before Turks and Caicos on the 8th...!

My husband's certifying in OW today!

Hey thanks...! Actually, today went pretty bad... Two people were certifying. The other guy had a panic attack and had to be rescued. Hubbie fared better, but had problems with weighting (ended up with 41 lbs to get him down) and then couldn't equalize. Can still get it done tomorrow...

My husband's certifying in OW today!

Well, actually today and tomorrow...! Not sure yet if I'm diving with him in this cold weather, but this is going to be fun...! (We're going to Turks and Caicos for the first time in May, so we have to get him up to speed.)

How to best store a BCD?

Thx! That's what I thought - but didn't want to choose wrong. :)

How should a wetsuit be stored?

Hey. thanks! Will be hanging up the gear today....soon to be broken out for the coming season! :)

Newly AOW, and planning a trip to Thailand

Thx for the input...! Sadly, the trip's been cancelled... :( (My friend scheduled a trip to CA for a month later with the family. He's currently looking for a new position, so he can't afford to have so much time unavailable for work, should it happen.) Since I won't go alone....well...darn...

How should a wetsuit be stored?

I've been diving now for just one summer, and wanted to know if wetsuits should be stored folded or on the hanger? (My husband was arguing that hanging it upright will just cause it to stretch overtime.) Who's right? Thx in advance for any info...! -J

How to best store a BCD?

Was just discussing this w/my husband, who's going to be starting OW at the end of the month. We're not quite sure if a BCD should be stored with or without air (I've always left air in the BC to make sure the insides don't stick.) Is that the right approach? Thx! :)
