Feb 19 2017 Cozumel diving fatality

The problem (as I see it) with manual inflation of the wing/BCD is that new(er) divers will do anything to avoid taking the regulator from their mouth....it is the worst possible scenario. So, if the LP hose is not working or has blown off, the thought of manually inflating the wing is far from...

    Drysuit undergarment HELP

One more endorsement of the Whites Thermal Fusion...I use mine with UnderArmour and I am good in Lake Ontario in winter (33 degrees).

Feb 19 2017 Cozumel diving fatality

I've never had a power inflator fail to inflate my wing but I have had the LP hose blow off (damn those dry gloves and their lack of feel). It's a little disconcerting as you descend a bit too quickly and your ears can't keep up, but with experience you learn to quickly and calmly add a bit of...

    Bayahibe Dominican Republic Diving Report

I have dove with John and ScubaFun many times and have always had a great week. In my opinion, Bayahibe is one of the most under-rated dive destinations in the world. Penon is still my favourite reef dive of all time.

    DSMB requirement?

Great tool if you have taken the time to learn how to deploy one and practice regularly, otherwise the result can be somewhere between "America's Funniest Videos" and a serious diving incident. I have seen folks attempt to deploy an SMB at depth and end up tangled up like a tuna in a fishing...

    Dry glove recommendations

Viking Classic system...pull the glove over the "sewn-in" suit ring and you are ready to go. No failure points...no lining up the rings before you "click". Simple, elegant and foolproof.

Feb 19 2017 Cozumel diving fatality

I have never met Christi though based on her well-thought out and eloquently worded posts here, I respect her and would be completely confident diving with her company. However my experience in Cozumel has not exactly dove tailed with her post. My experience on the island is limited (I have...

    Deep Six Outfitters Eddy Fin

Really wanted to give these fins a try but between the currency exchange and the shipping/taxes/duty I am looking at $250.00 Canadian.

Dust cap off first stage while soaking regs

I guarantee you a DIN regulator dist cap does not keep water out.

Best dive sites in Punta Cana?

The diving in Punta Cana is pretty bad...lot's of surge, not a lot of life on the reef. The best diving in the DR is on the south coast near La Romana in a fishing village called Bayahibe (about an hour south of Punta Cana). Most of the Punta Cana hotel dive operators run day trips to Bayahibe...

Which size SPGs for sidemount? 1.5", 2", or 2.5"

    I found with 2" spg's I needed "SPG Viagra" ;-)

    Gas Management With Sidemount

I do a valve feather "drill" on pretty much every dive (to stay sharp with the skill). It is very easy and I doubt my gas consumption increases at all. In a real emergency it might, but I suspect not very much, given that I practice the procedure so often.

    Dominican Republic

Bayahibe is the town (near La Romana) is the best spot to be for diving. Punta Cana has some dead reef but a lot of surge (not really worth the effort). ScubaFun is my favourite shop in Bayahibe...John has great boats and safe and fun DM's. There is a large Russian freighter called the St...

    Escaping Down Drafts

Although I have never encountered a down current I have a personal rule that I won't dive any Nitrox mix on a dive where the hard bottom exceeds the MOD unless I have two independent buoyancy systems. Don't flame me, it is a personal decision, but on wetsuit dives along a wall where a loss of...
