Does medical grade oxygen in a steel cylinder have a shelf life?

Cylinders filled to FDA requirements, like medical grade O2, are assigned lot numbers for tracking and expiration dates. Therefore, yes, it does expire. Doesn't mean the gas actually goes bad, just means it must be emptied and refilled. I believe they are good for 5 years. Roger

    Canada wont certify Cylinders

The 0806 would indicate the original date of manufacture if these are all the markings on the tank. Transport Canada (TC) does not recognize US DOT made cylinders that are not "dual marked" with both DOT and TC markings. (There are exceptions that I will not go into here) It is very unusual...

Wind Chimes or Good to go deep????

Most Texas dive shops will fill the US Divers cylinder. As mentioned earlier, check with your LDS and see. With a good eddy current and visual to back up the eddy current, chances are pretty good this cylinder is perfectly acceptable. roger

    VE Stamp Questions....Answered!

Hallmac, I hear your argument and don't totally disagree with you. The point was made that if you have a VE done on 6061 and it indicates a void that fits the VE program's parameters for a sustained load crack, then the cylinder has to be condemned. I'm just pointing out that DOT has...

    VE Stamp Questions....Answered!

Might be worth mentioning that just because your Vis + III shows a crack in 6061 you don't have to condemn the cylinder if you can't verify the crack visually.

    Maximum test pressure

Well, this is pretty scary...Although DOT does not specify a maximum test pressure, pamphlet C-1from the Compressed Gas Association specifies a limit of 10%. Using your 3AA1800 cylinder as an example, test pressure is a minumum of 3000psi. If your equipment has a leak during the test, you are...

    u s divers co.

Cochran Labratories is a third party inspector, approved by DOT to do on site inspections of the cylinders as they are manufactured. They check wall thickness, metallurgy and other items required by DOT. However, they do not do the hydro test. The manufacture is responsible for this. I have...

    HP Tanks and Tumbling

I would suggest that the moisture in your fills is the most likely culprit. After they have been tumbled, they should not need it again if the air is dry. Moisture = rust. Roger
