Recommendations for diving with new Jr. OW diver

This is not really an answer to the question per say, but I thought I'd chime in- I started diving at age 11, in Indonesia (1986) and I don't think I'll ever be able to equal the experience of my final dive on the certification trip. Crystal clear, warm waters over an incredible reef teeming...

Will the rain ruin the visibility this weekend at Casino Point?

Thanks! That'll help me get through the rest of the work week. I'll call one of the shops on sat.

Will the rain ruin the visibility this weekend at Casino Point?

I've been planning to get out to the dive park this Sunday 11/24... but I see the weather forecast calls for rain thursday, friday and maybe on saturday. Is this going to ruin the awesome visibility that people have been talking about lately? Generally, how much rain does it take to screw up...

    Rare Catalina Shark Attack

Have you guys noticed that non-divers always talk about sharks whenever there is any mention of diving? Seriously, its shark shark shark shark shark shark everything shark. What about sharks? Don't you worry about sharks? "I don't dive cause of sharks" etc etc etc. Shark shark here, there...

    3mm, 5mm, 7mm for SoCal?

I'm a smaller guy, 155 lbs and I do 7mm with hood in the winter, 7mm without hood in the summer. gloves always. Don't need a hood when the temp is in the 60s. Those funky vests sound fun but never tried it.

    Shore diviing motion sickness

I have to agree with Tigerman... having eaten makes you feel stronger and steadier. Everyone is different and maybe there are different triggers for nausea but for me personally I'd be much less likely to feel nausea if I'd eaten in the morning, preferably something with protein.

    Narco sub??

Can't argue with you there, Ben... but they'd make an interesting wreck....

    Narco sub??

This might be a bit of a stretch......... but, anyone ever see one of those scuttled Narco subs? They're supposed to be more and more common now, and the operators sink them whenever they fear being caught, maybe even at the end of a successful mission. Just curious..... Naturally I'm...

    Shore diviing motion sickness

Has anyone here ever actually puked through a regulator while underwater? Seems like being on the verge of puking could send someone on a dangerous rapid ascent. I seem to recall hearing that its fine to puke through a a reg.

Go Pro at Casino Point in July

I'll try that. Do you ever take a tripod?

Go Pro at Casino Point in July

I shot 2 hours of footage in the dive park and just finished editing it... in that much footage, much of it is sort of random, so what I tried to do here was to cut it into a sort of 5- minute narrative, that although not very exact in its spatial/temporal representation of the park, flows...

    Go Pro first time

I have been getting into GoPro recently as well. I recently bought the LCD back and I love it. Go too deep without light and it gets a bit green and grainy, and the exposure can get wild. I recently had 2 hours of footage from 2 dives and I just cut it all into a 5-minute piece. With all that...

Non-diving: what to do in LA for 3 days

There are many museums, such as the art museum on Wilshire, the Automotive Museum, the Natural History Museum, the LA Arboretum, and the live-action "museum of tourist crowds" known as Hollywood Blvd. On your first day you will go to a diner called Fred62 on Vermont Ave and order the...

    Leg strength and bad knees

HI TSandM I agree with much of what has been said just want to throw in 2 cents... I am a little guy, 5'6" and around 150 lbs but in college back in the 90s I squatted 405 lbs in a misguided martial arts quest and I noticed lots of things about leg power during that time. If you concentrate on...

    Drinking underwater?

If you think about it, little things that bring just that much more comfort or peace of mind will free you to focus on other things while you're down. Might as well just add that skill to your toolkit, bring along a platypus and not worry about it. You're thirsty, have a drink. Feel better...

What is your beer of choice?

#1. Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour Ale #2. St Bernardus Pater #6 #3. Chimay Reserve #4. Fin Du Monde these are rich and complex and changed the way I think about beer. Rather than a piss-flavored belly fat increaser for sports bars, I realized that beer can be as complex as wine and something to...

Whats the prob w/split fins again?

Apologies is this has been exhaustively covered somewhere, but why does everyone look down on split fins exactly? I fear that this is somehow a loaded question, but i just want to know. I have some bio fins and they seem pretty awesome. Seems like all the elite people only wear those short...

    stolen gear

Ten years ago or so i had all my freediving gear stolen in Malibu-- not nearly the worth of scuba gear but at the time i was broke and feediving was my main escape from the city so I was enraged. I was at Matador state beach and I left the car for 15 minutes to check the water conditions and...
