How do you make yourself less bouyant?

Stuck with 7.5lbs of weight?...awwww, poor baby :depressed:. I think what you should do is come dive in California where you'll need about triple that and then you won't care about shedding 1.5lbs of lead.

When are you no longer a 'newbie?'

When, no matter how bad the conditions are, you push forward and continue on because you WILL NOT BE stopped just because things get dangerous. When you won't thumb a dive just because your buddy is doing something stupid like convulsing underwater. When you won't let something petty like...

What does "Dive Planning" mean to you?

My typical dive plan: "I'm gonna go over there...I'll head back at around 1000psi"

    Bad weekend in Indonesia

I wonder if the snorkeler was swimming after a mermaid when he got eaten by the clam...too bad Prince Dolphin wasn't there to save him.

Thanks to some of you who care

I don't think all those people want their email addresses posted...what's the point of this thread anyway?

    Soft Weights Confiscated by Airline?

Good to see TSA is doing their job...and in fact they're becoming even more strict to keep us safe. For example, they've realized that a terrorist could threaten passengers with a headbutt so they're now requiring decapitation before boarding the plane. If you wish to avoid being decapitated...

    Mask lens fogging

Like the other guy said...scrub it more. A cheap non-gel toothpaste works best and what I would do is get the water pretty hot, scrub the lens well with your finger/toothpaste, rinse it off in hot water, dry the lens and repeat (do like 3-4 times) and then use the defogger of your choice. Once...

Mares Quattro = Cramps = Split Fins

Quattros are a great fin and I would advise giving them a little more time. Like others have said, your legs may not be in the best of shape so maybe jog, ride a bike, etc. and try to get your strength/stamina up a bit. If you're still set on splits, I would go with either the Apollo...

How R U on basic hand signals?

I'm great! Here's an example: "Hey man, you're gonna go out there by yourself?...you know you should have a buddy right?" http://merrymerryquitecontrary.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/flipping-off-grandma.jpg%3Fw%3D346%26h%3D546

    Not a dive question really...

Just curious why O'ahu has a much higher population density than any of the other Hawaiian Islands?

Snorkeler attacked and killed by Bull Shark at Seychelles while on honeymoon.

Before I form an opinion I want to hear the shark's account of the events.

    Snorkeling Sets

Well, any snorkeling set around $80 should be fairly decent (although I would say really good sets start at about $125 for mask/snorkel/fins) but there's no guarantees about not leaking...if the mask fits your face it won't leak, if doesn't fit properly then it will.

    prepared?? To meet your maker?

What do you take me for...a fool!?! I am unwilling to entrust my life to a single tool...all of the aforementioned are separate pieces carried within, or clipped onto, my BC which is essentially a custom-made dive trench coat. If you ever see a SCUBA-Neo that is me, navigating gracefully and...

    Coming to SoCal...where to dive???

Boat/island diving is best but if you're wanting to check out some shore diving, these are some of my favorite spots: La Jolla Cove (san diego) crescent bay (laguna) divers cove (laguna) Heisler park (laguna) Little Corona/robert badham (corona del mar)
