    Mares icon HD, firmware 4.0

Wondering where you found Version 4. The firmware download section of the Mares site only shows 3.07.

Tara Reid on Whale Sharks. Hahaha.

We've all had that "what do I want to do when I grow up" moment - it comes at different ages. At what age do you think she answered the question with, "I want to be a professional moron"?

    leaking dry glove.

Here's a link to the Glove Lock QCP manual: http://www.sitech.se/files/documents/products/60000/glove%20lock%20qcp_manual_2013.pdf The two-thumb method never worked for me, so as grf88 suggests I've used a plastic pick to get it started out of the groove. I don't use these any more (switched to...

When was the last time you cleaned and lubed the O ring, or is that also too difficult?

Article: Send Lawyers, Guns, and Money

Well, at least we're not arguing about HOG products. With respect to the subject at hand, I'll say first that I've been a trial lawyer for 31 years. I don't do personal injury work, but I know plenty who do. I've lost count of the number of clients that I've turned down because their "claim"...

Halycon Eclipse BPW a good buy at ~$700?

Not funny - maybe ironic. But either way, this impulsive silliness, whether in defense or in support, always detracts from the question posted by the OP. I come on here to learn, and sometimes even to provide a few answers or share an experience. I don't come on here to read cock fights. After 5...

Halycon Eclipse BPW a good buy at ~$700?

As a relatively new convert to a BP/W, I am routinely amazed by the level of sniping that crops up every time someone asks for a recommendation or comments on a particular brand. HOG does seem to generate more of that sort of thing than others. I certainly understand brand loyalty, but the...

BP/Wing People: How essential is a STA?

They do come with rubber tabs, but I've found that they pop out of the plate pretty easily. I've replaced the upper tab on both of my DSS rigs with a sex bolt - works like a charm.

    Backplate wing setup for entry/transition

I've become a big fan of Deep Sea Supply. Great equipment and service is second to none. If you call and let them know you have questions, they'll put Tobin, the owner, on the phone and he'll take all the time you need to make sure all your questions are answered. I just bought my second DSS...

    Incredible ad from GreenPeace Australia

"Eco-terrorism is still terrorism" Well, I haven't read or heard anything about anyone from Greenpeace, or even Sea Shepherd, planting roadside IEDs, exploding pressure cookers, or blowing themselves up in crowds. But then again I don't watch Fox News so maybe I missed it. More important...

mares icon...to buy or not to buy?

I've had the HD Net Ready almost since it first came out and have no complaints (had a problem with a transmitter but Mares replaced it with no issues). First, battery life - I've had 4-dive days with 50% or more battery life remaining at the end. As for recharging, it is quick with the computer...

    Best drysuit glue?

PB-300 is great, but tough to find. I've used this from DRIS - don't know if it's PB-300 but it works great: DRIS Dive Gear Drysuit Glue | Dive Right In Scuba - Plainfield, IL

CDFW Officers Cite Two for Abalone Poaching in Marine Protected Area

I'm really glad to see the constitutional scholars weighing in on this grave threat to life, liberty and the pursuit of killing off anything. I haven't hugged any trees recently, but I certainly have listened to such scholars pulling off an excellent imitation of dead wood. Turning to the...

Why don't technical divers use full face masks?

Not sure if these are similar to the ones from Chipola, but these are what I use with the gas switch block: Page Title They have a twist locking feature to minimize the risk of accidental blowout.

Why don't technical divers use full face masks?

I don't tech dive (yet - that's next year), but I have been using an OTS Guardian for a year. When I dive with it, it's always with a pony bottle. Both my main hose and the pony bottle hose are routed to the reg through a gas switch block. I believe some fire departments use a similar setup...

    The negatives of bp/w

My conversion is in progress, and I couldn't be happier. More streamlined, less bulky, etc. I don't have an issue with adjustability, but if it's something that's of concern to you, this might be a consideration: https://www.deepseasupply.com/index.php?product=1340

    OTS Guardian Question (Regulator)

It's a standard policy of my LDS - they also do it for every reg I've bought from them. Not sure what yours means by "cleaning the mask". I rinse mine in fresh water along with my other gear after dives. It doesn't require any special treatment. Sounds like they may be trying to justify the price.

    OTS Guardian Question (Regulator)

I've been using one for over a year with no breathability issues - head up or down. Service is through my LDS, where I bought it. Service labor is free so long as I have it serviced every year. It's just the reg, which is very easy to remove/attach.
