I was diving in 71 degree what the other day and I had on a 2mil shorty. No way would you need a 7 mil, maybe if it was a farmer john and you didn't wear the top.
We dive in 0 vis (for work). We hold hands, and use guide ropes. We also thoroughly discuss our plan, and have different signals we will use in case of an emergency. It's cool to hold hands underwater. You wont loose any man points. Only in 0 vis though, if you can see like five or six feet...
I was looking into getting one of these, but I can't tell if you can inflate it manually. Does anyone know if they are? Please let me know.
Another thing: Would you be worried that if someone had to come help you (not your buddy) and they looked at your BC and said, "where the heck is...
Nope first rule is, if the victim is not breathing get them to the surface as fast as you can safely. Meaning if you have to bypass the three minute safety stop, bypass it. Get them to the surface then do your ABC's (but save the chest compressions until you make it to land.) Our dive team...
I am pretty new to diving, but I think a spare air would be just enough to get you to your buddy who was a few feet away so that you could do an emergency out of air accent. How about a spare air on your leg and a pony bottle on your side. I'm a big fan of backing up my backups.

The course was excellent. It starts off with about 6 chapters of homework which is relatively easy. Then you have a 25 question test and a night in the pool. I'm not sure if all classes are the same but my instructor had us pair up in buddy teams and sit on opposite sides of the pool facing...
I just finished the ssi course and it was one night classroom one night pool and one half day open water. Not sure how similar they are, but they have to be close.

We did our stress/rescue certification today. Water was like bath water at 42 degrees, outside temp was 75, I had to keep putting my head underwater during the briefings to keep cool. We did semi cooperative, non-cooperative, unconscious surface rescues and unconscious submerged rescue. The...
I did 3 dives today, first was 18 minutes, the second was 21 minutes, and the third was 24 minutes. I used mares 6mm gloves and a farmer john suit. Also did a mask removal. :D
Just a quick update: I am now officially open water certified! Went down 51 feet today where the water temp was about 34 degrees and vis was about 2 feet. I used a new hood, new mask and new gloves. I was more than comfortable and everything went great. My instructor (terry) was awesome...
Hey everyone,
I am an above water photographer and I can't wait to get my camera below the surface. I have got some great info here about diving so I thought I would give you a link to an article I wrote on my blog on "camera basics". I am sure many of you already know this info, but if you...
I'm there!
On another note, I spoke with my instructor and expressed my concerns about the speed of the course. The listened to all my concerns and are really working to get me comfortable in the water. They are being really encouraging and helpful. It's good to have people willing to...
Lots of great advice here, I sure am glad I found this place. I am looking forward to going to dutch springs, hopefully that water should be warmer. I should be heading up there near the end of April.
