Getting back on the horse after tragedy

Dr.Bill, were you using an upflow reg? And were you diving with a buddy at the time? Was it a buoyant ascent? It's rare or I wouldn't ask.

    Explain this

Three hours of pool time, some at the surface talking. Then skills, snorkel reg exchange, cesa, etc. When at the lake I usually get in 3 hours or so of bottom time at 20'-30'. And no, not all on the same dive.

    BP oil spill update

Just wondering if anyone had noticed any still lingering lasting effects of the major oil spill fom the BP rig a couple years ago?

    Explain this

I would guess he orally inflates his bcd, but I hardly have any air in mine. Bouyancy is all about proper weighting and using your lungs. It has very little to do with your bcd. I use mine mostly to float at the surface. As far as sac rate... we had a class last weekend, I was in the pool for...

HID vs LED for night diving

So I've heard some decent arguments for LED, but not for a particular LED. I guess if I go LED I would prefer a single bulb for signaling. Also a fairly tight beam. I would like to keep it under $1,000 US. I has to have a decent halo though, I dont want to dive a lazer beam.

HID vs LED for night diving

Just wondering thoughts and a opinions on HID vs LED specifically for night diving. I understand tech guys want HID for signalling and penitration, but I will only use it for night diving and nothing else. Also which model if you like...

    Night dive primary

As I said, I use the 220 on every dive. Its on a retractor, and I use it to look in holes, brighten coral, etc. Wonderful feed back, I think I'll end up buying the Hog, its only $500 and if what everyone says is true it should work great for me. Thanks again everyone. Its so nice to get feed...

    Night dive primary

I need someone's oppinion who has actually used one of these lights at night and their thoughts. I currently use a Dorcy 220 lumen primary. Id like to upgrade to a better brighter light for night diving. I have been looking at the HOG/Edge canister from Pirahna Dive Mfg which is 1000 lumens and...

    A Newbie Ascends

Use your fins to swim up. Use your lungs and BCD to keep your buoyancy neutral. Neutral buoyancy will make it easier to swim up and stay at 15'.

    Breathe Uncompressed Air Underwater

Considering drowning is much more concerning than dcs, I would choose to take a quick breath, keep my airway open, and bolt for the surface. A hospital deals with the bends, a coroner with a drowning.

    Animal Encounters

I like to tell people that animals don't just attack, especially divers, we're big, strange, and have bubbles flying out of our head. So if you're lucky enough to see a big animal that scares you, get vertical and get big. They will take off for sure. Most animals in the wild are horizontal...

    Animal Encounters

So I get this question all the time in various forms. What do I do if I see a shark(eel, barracuda)? I know the PADI answer, I know what I tell them, the question to all of you.... What do you tell people to do if an animal is taking a little too much interest in you? Besides take pictures :)

Any special considerations for St Lucia?

Super easy diving. Superman can be a bit dodgy if they are unaware of what to expect. There will be a wall dive to pay attention to depth. I dove with Sandels for our honeymoon, it was our first ocean experience as well. Good first time location. And we did pick not pick up other Sandels...
