G16 has horrible focus for video

The G16 can produce some absolutely stunning underwater video. The problem is that is has difficulty autofocusing when there is less than ideal contrast (like almost anytime you're shooting underwater!). The solution is simple: Don't use autofocus. Set up one of the user customizable...

    RAW Problem

You probably need the Adobe Camera Raw update for the G11. Google it, should take you right there.

    G16 - No Zoom deeper than 10ft/3m

Autofocus was the only real issue I had underwater with the G16 - it tends to hunt for focus when there's not a lot of contrast. I did resolve that by going to manual focus and locking that into the custom modes.

    G16 - No Zoom deeper than 10ft/3m

I had no problem at all with the G16 itself, all the problems were housing-induced. Once I got it in a Nauticam housing, it was fantastic. Try writing to Ikelite and complaining. Worked for me.

    G16 - No Zoom deeper than 10ft/3m

I had an Ikelite TTL housing for my G16. I returned it as there was just no end to the problems with the controls. Sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't, sometimes they stuck, etc etc. I wrote Ikelite a two page letter detailing all the problems I was having. I believe some of them...

    Strobe for Canon Rebel XTi??

Does the strobe fire with other setups? Are you sure the fiber optic cable is good? I had one go bad on me a couple of years ago; it still passed light but not enough to fire the strobe. No obvious damage to the cable or connectors.

Canon G-16 and Nauticam NA-G16 Housing, Dual YS-110A Strobes.

Canon G-16 and Nauticam NA-G16 housing. Purchased about one year ago, used for 5-6 months, then I moved to Alaska where I don't do much (any) diving! The Nauticam housing has a few little rock dings and some staining, maybe from the o-ring grease that I got all over my fingers. At any rate, the...

Camera Recommendation Canon G16 or better?

Yes. I considered switching to sync cables to extend battery life, but the Canon OEM batteries go a long way even using the flash to drive optic cables. Not to mention four fewer opportunities for water intrusion with fiber.

Camera Recommendation Canon G16 or better?

This is the only problem with the G16 - hunting for focus when there isn't a lot of contrast between the subject and background. I solved it by going to manual focus. You can set it up to focus from about 18" to infinity and then store those settings in C1 and C2. I lost quite a bit of good...

Camera Recommendation Canon G16 or better?

I have a G16 with the Nauticam housing. Underwater video out of the G16 is fantastic. Make sure you manually set the white balance. The Nauticam housing is head and shoulders above just about everything else on the market. One thing you need to look at when selecting a housing is attachments...

    WP-DC45 red lense

You might also consider using custom white balance. I don't know what kind of diving you do, but you'll probably find that custom white balance will give you better results and a wider depth range than a filter.

    batteries camera

Yeah, I bought Wasabi's because of the good reviews. Both of them took a dump shortly after I bought them. Interestingly, they say two things on them: "Premium Cells from Japan", and "Made in China".

G16 -- Underwater setting or Red Filter?

Well, one of the reasons for buying something like a G16 is so that you DON'T have to use a filter. Return the filter if you can. I would recommend shooting everything underwater in RAW and correcting the white balance in post. You can also manually set the white balance, but why bother for...

    batteries camera

Do yourself a favor and stick with the Canon OEM batteries. I've bought Wasabi and other off-brands, some claiming to have higher capacity than OEM's, and every single one of them has sucked, either because they don't have near the capacity they claim or because they won't hold a charge after a...

Truk - San Francisco Maru dive profile

Well, talk about opening up a can of worms here. Let me preface this by saying that you need to understand Micronesians. If you tell your Blue Lagoon dive guide that you want to dive the San Francisco on a 53 CF tank, have 30 minutes of bottom time at 180 feet, and only incur a 5 minute deco...

    Yap Trip Report- April 2014

Manta Ray Bay and Yap Divers is just about my favorite place on the planet. You're right about the waters being calmer out here in the summer months, the tradeoff is that you can't expect the same level of manta action as you can during the earlier months. The manta action in Jan/Feb/Mar is...

New Sony or wait for G17

Here's the real problem: By the time underwater housings are available for either a G17 or a Sony RX100 III, the G18 and RX100 IV will be close to release and you'll want to wait for THEM to come out, then you'll have to wait several months more for housings, then the G19 and RX100 V will be in...

What would you do? T4i or G16

I'm assuming that you travel to do your diving, and as several others have pointed out hauling a DSLR with housing, port, etc. is quite a chore. You will probably need to dedicate a suitcase to your camera gear. Not to mention the fact that you'll probably need to check it as well. With a G16...

    Grey Geo 2.0 replacement band

I didn't have much problem at all mounting the Geo to a 1.5mm strap. In fact I did two. Plus I put a 1mm on my wife's. The 20mm straps work perfectly on the Geo. Why is a 1mm strap not recommended for diving? It's probably 10 times as strong as the plastic piece of crap that comes with...

    Grey Geo 2.0 replacement band

20mm. Shot you a pm with a link to the one I bought, but there are scores of different ones available. I was lucky in that my Geo band blew apart on the dive boat and not in the water.
