We were at Guadalupe for three days. It was two days of traveling and three days at Guadalupe Island. We had a total of 15 divers aboard; not all of the divers dove each day so we had all the water time we wanted. To be honest, the five dives per day was all we needed but I stayed in a couple...
Hi Tndiver,
I used a nikon D200 with an Ikelite housing. Some people had strobes attached but the water is very clear with enough light coming through that a flash wasn't required. Maybe if it were cloudy, strobes would be nice. MD
Conshelfs are legendary and my reg of choice since the early 80's. Mostly because most of the men in my family were military divers and thats what they used so thats what I was brought up using. I feel confident in the durability and that goes a long ways in my mind.
I went in October. September and October are supposed to be the best months for Guadalupe Island. The crew said the sharks are there until January but the weather gets bad.
As for chumming, the Mexican Navy has put a hold on using tuna heads for bait. Boats have permits to chum but the...
Yea I'm the same way. I was concerned I would lose interest but I never did. The sharks are so massive I never got bored. Its more like a big animal safari than your typical liveaboard dive trip. I think if I there were no sharks for a day or two, then I'd want to dive somewhere else.
I dont...
My turkey hangover has guilted me into catching up on everything I have procrastinated on. I have been meaning to post my trip but I just finished catching up on back logged work so here it is. Better late than never
Well, I sprung for a trip of a lifetime. I have been eyeing this trip for...
THis might be a dumb question but do you North Eastern lobster divers bring rubberbands or something to tame those claws or do you just shove the lobsters in a bag?
Knifing halibut in california is a legitimate way to hunt them. Its been done for many many years. Its almost exclusivly done at night and it is very easy to do. the halibut do not move at night and you can almost touch one without spooking it. Daytime is much much harder. Just use any old dive...
x2. 1.5 inch ABS with holes drilled in it with rope in between. Works great and kind of 'rolls up' when not in use. It goes form the back of the truck to the boat and back to the truck...very portable.
I heard metel detecting in southern california is problematic becasue of certain minerals in the sand. Does anyone know anything about this? I heard it from a guy that used to hunt/metal detect the crushed coral of So. Florida.
I'll second the practice above water first... You will want to know your camera very well above water becasue the housing only complicates the funtions. The more intuitive you can be with your equipment before it goes into the housing, the easier it will be to take good photos.
Cool pictures. Diving in California pre-wetsuits must have been something else. The ones pictured couldnt have insulated very well. Burrrrrrrr. Thanks for posting.
