    Question Gear Travel Bag Option

I pack all of my dive gear except for my knife, dive bouy and a pair of one pound trim weights in a Dive Caddy carry on. I even fit my wetsuit, boots, trunks and mesh bag. It fits in the overhead bin better than most roller bag style carry ons. As previously stated, it's comforting to know...

What wetsuit choices for diving Cenotes Mexico.

Somewhat depends on the weather your coming from. When I go down from Wisconsin in February, I dive the cenotes in a lavacore shirt and board shorts. Everyone is different.

Did your OW course prepare you to dive?

Like any class I've ever taken, it prepared me with the fundamental knowledge to learn safely.

Why can't scuba tanks be set up like a firefighter's scba?

The tanks on a firefighting scba are shorter, much lighter and usually have a rubber bumper on the valve assembly, and no tank mounted regulator to worry about. "Dropping the pack" would be considered abusive to equipment, but pack removal while on air to get through openings is something that...

Two divers struck, killed - Isla Mujeres, Mexico

The real tragedy of this incident is it wasn't an accident caused by an inattentive captain of a pleasure boat. It was what appears to be a selfish action by an impatient captain of a rival dive center trying to drop divers. Holding onto the marker bouy rope for the dive site should have been...

Two divers struck, killed - Isla Mujeres, Mexico

C55 can have relatively strong current. The divers were doing their safety stop on the rope that attaches the bouy for c55 to the ship, NOT AN SMB. Mr Tom hit the bouy, dragging the divers up into the prop. I've done that dive enough times to know that the current can be strong enough to make...

Two divers struck, killed - Isla Mujeres, Mexico

I believe the bouy was struck by Mr Tom, pulling the divers up where they were struck by the prop.

    AOW certification in Cancun

I did both OW and AOW with Solo Buceo in Cancun. My instructor was very thorough with my training.

SP Jet fin foot pocket repair

The repair is still functioning fine. The webbing straps take the load from the rubber. Water pressure has absolutely nothing to do with the integrity of the repair. I have about 40 saltwater dives on them since the repairs were made. As a bonus, my fins are easy to identify.

    Dm5

I use subsurface after having similar issues to yours. I lost the dives that were stored in DM3 when my computer crashed, and thought my Vyper had died when it wouldn't load into either DM4 or 5. I was a happy man when it loaded correctly into subsurface. At this point, I don't know if I...

SP Jet fin foot pocket repair

I used the McNett contact cement to bond the strap to the foot pocket. Then I used Aqua Seal to make an abrasion patch on the bottoms of each fin over the straps. The only thing the contact cement really does is hold the straps in place. I put another 20 dives on those fins this year in Cancun...

    Dm5

I had DM3 until my computer crashed and it worked satisfactorily. I had to load DM-5 on my new computer and now it shows every 2nd dive downloaded from my vyper at twice actual depth. I was afraid I was having problems with the vyper until I downloaded the dives into subsurface and they all...

    Express Tech

I don't think that the point was that the rip cord is a 'bad' design, but more that on the ET the zip touch takes up less space and is more convenient. As stated before, I have both. Since weight dumping was brought up, I still prefer the Zip Touch because I can dump just one side if I...

    Express Tech

I know that you didn't ask me, but I have the Rip Cord on my Ranger and Zip Touch on my Express Tech. I much prefer the Zip Touch.

    jet fin question

I wear a size 11 soft soled 7mm wet suit boot and the XL fits like a glove. It is almost to the point of needing to drill a hole at the toe of the foot pocket to get them off a little easier. Mine are a pretty old set, so I am unsure if the sizing has changed.

Alternative weight distribution / stowing equipment

I don't have anywhere near the experience of some of the posters, so I'll only tell you what works for me. I dive a Zeagle Express Tech with 24# wing, Scubapro Jet XL fins and dive shop AL80s I use a lavacore shirt for exposure protection, which has zero buoyancy. In the ocean, I use a one...

    Express Tech

I love my standard ET. I added D rings and made a crotch strap and couldn't be happier. It is much more flexible than my Ranger was.

SP Jet fin foot pocket repair

Update - I dove my repaired Jets over a period of 10 days in Cancun and they worked perfectly with no issues.

That's a good idea! I may still do that before I use them.
