There is a lot of misguidance on this subject, which is why I posted the calculation. I see many people bypass perfectly adequate BCs and wings because they think that they need 50+ lift capacity.
The calculation only measures lift needed at depth, because that will automatically ensure...
I posted the weight calculation method in this thread and if you read it you will see what the requirements are for.
The high lift capacities are primarily for technical diving with multiple tanks.
American charges are:
- up to 50 lbs.: no overage charge;
- 50-75 lbs.: $25
- 75-100 lbs.: $50
These are domestic and the charges are per checked-in bag. If you want to bring more bags than is allowed, the charges go up quite a bit.
Remember that weights are always included with the...
Come on now. None of the ten or so dive centers I dived with in France has ever even questioned my PADI card or those of my buddies. Is CMAS more respected in France: yes! Is PADI useless in France: absolutely not!
There should not be any differences in the certification standards (which by...
I did my CMAS (2*) training about 14 years ago and while I don't know if the equipment removal at depth is a standard practise, it wouldn't surprise me. The key difference with my PADI training was that CMAS requires you to practise everything over and over and over again. By the time I got my...
It is great to read your report: 9 years and 51 weeks ago my wife and I spend our honeymoon in Moorea at Club Bali Hai in an over-the-water bungalow and I still remember my morning walks to the pastry shop for breakfast.
It's great to hear it is still a wonderful place.
You will have no problem getting your CMAS recognized and quite frankly many people will value a 2* CMAS much higher than a PADI AOW.
CMAS is a non-commercial organization and often operates behind national diving organizations, which is why you don't see them "advertised" as much. However...
Well they are, see the Gore website. Why aren't the "big scuba drysuit companies" using Gore-tex? I suspect that this has to do with the pricing of the material and the fact that they may see Gore as a competitor in some of their markets. Or there may be other characteristics that make them...
If there are lots of suspended particles in the water you cannot avoid some backscatter. But moving your strobe away from the lens should reduce it significantly. Did you have your internal strobe covered?
Your not doing away with any hose!!! The only difference is that you now inflate your BC by pushing a button on your hip instead of a button on your shoulder.
Make sure to try the jacket. It is very well manufactured, but very stiff and to me it feels like an armor.
Knife maintenance is very simple.
1. After each dive rinse the knife in lukewarm fresh water for a few minutes, then dry it with a (paper) towel.
2. After each series of dives remove any rust with an SOS pad, rinse and dry the knife. Then coat it thinly with vaseline.
It will last a lifetime.
