    New Diy Lionfish Dungeon Design

Looks great and at a good price! My only minor comment is maybe some kind of shelf held up just off the bottom. Otherwise when you fill it the bottom is likely gonna be a venom pin cushion.

    Where to retire?

Curacao is worth checking, but I of course say that because I live there! Medical care is fairly good for the region, new laws just recently passed make obtaining citizenship a little easier. There is a fairly decent ex pat community, the shore diving is great. Inter island travel and travel...

    Curacao Trip In July

Safer Beaches would include the already mentioned Cas Abou and Porto Marie, both with good shops and good dives (I like PM a little bit more). Also Kokomo Beach, a decent dive with a car pile and a pontoon wreck, good services etc...Playa Kalki out west is a great dive and a great shop, and...

How To Choose A 5-star Padi Shop

I don't own or work at a Padi 5 star shop, but I watched a youtube video, stayed at a whatsit hotel last night, and also drink lots of cold ones after work with people that own and work at Padi 5*s. I'm not aware of any auditing that Padi does directly or regularly for the quality of...

Bonaire Crime - Our experience - Looking for input to share

I've been hesitant to respond to this thread, but I remembered a news story I saw a while back ... ABC-islands not fond of European Dutch ... While the article is specifically about Dutch tourists, I think it applies to North Americans to a certain extent as well. I have no dog in this fight...

    Lionfish Removal Plan

There have been lots of DNA studies done that verify the number of "parents" responsible for the Caribbean Lionfish problem. I know REEF has lots of the info, dunno if it's on their website. A quick Google search of Lionfish DNA should find you lots of sources to get more info.

How did you deal with snorkel warble in current

If you have to have one, and don't want it in your pocket, I can think of two things that might help with "warble." One, already mentioned, is get a snorkel that has a more oval shape to it. The other thing you can try is to get one that has the swiveling snorkel keeper on, so the snorkel can...

Does anyone feel that culling invasive lionfish is a bad thing?

Fortunately (or not as the case may be) we don't have to guess as to whether or not culling works, we know for a fact that it does. Now, to what degree it helps, and also to what degree we are helping nature find a "balance" maybe we have a little less data on. I've been involved in the...

What gear should come with me

Surely don't bring the 7 mil, even on a deep dive with some decent hang time I'd think a 5 full will be plenty. Scuba Store and more can likely service all your gear, he's pretty good. Anything extra you need to ship I would send by sea it's fairly inexpensive and usually takes a week to ten...

How many consider entry and exit of a shore dive a skill?

It's most certainly a skill, and one that needs a lot more practice then just "teaching." I think the best thing you can do as far as learning is learn to read waves and learn to predict wave sets. Lots of surfing websites and you tube videos out there to help. Having the set info and the way...

    Diver etiquette

Be unobtrusive, kind and considerate (and judging that you asked the question you probably already are). Also, bringing a banana on a boat is like playing "neener neener I've got your nose" with Posiden. Just don't do it.

Want to start PADI tr. for career in scuba w only 5 dives at 57 y/o. please feedback.

I'm certainly not one to say don't chase your dreams -- I suspect you'll get enough people telling you that in this thread if it gets enough attention. What I would advise you is the following, as RJP said, do some dives. You have to know that you have enough passion for it before you sell...

Teaching it Neutral Style... a paradigm shift in Scuba instruction

IMO if conditions/vis require you to overweight and anchor students to maintain control and safety issues, then you should only be checking out one student at a time to begin with. An instructors paramount responsibility is student safety and shouldn't be skirted.

Has sale to Huish affected Atomic quality/service? One person's recent experience

I've not seen any difference since the purchase. Atomic regs are friggen awesomesauce and so is the service.

OTC med help ... anyone coming to bonaire SOON

You should be able to get it there but it'll be a weird brand name or even more likely Dutch. Go to a botika and ask to look at the cold and allergy med boxes. See if you can find one that is....guaifenesen (sp?). With a little perseverance and luck you'll likely be rewarded.

    Realistic expectations?

You know....this thread pops up every so often and the responses are usually similar, and I've never really chimed in even though I have a wee bit of a different opinion. So just this once I'll throw in my .02psi. I agree with pretty much all that was said here, with the exception of a few...

The Knowledge and Skills of the Divemaster

The old saying it's the instructor not the class / agency is so true. I know a CD that could take a 50 dive DM intern and turn her into an amazingly polished dm with great skills and safety oriented to the nines. I've also known instructors whose rescue students wouldn't get passed my open...

The Knowledge and Skills of the Divemaster

I would agree with Darren, as well as many of the others. DMs (and especially good DMs) will have good skills for a variety of reasons. Lots of water time, probably lots of remediation and endless drills through their skill circuit to get to demo quality, personality types etc. etc. Most, if...
