    Bell Island fatality - Canada

A Facebook post indicates that this was due to "natural causes unrelated to diving". Very sad regardless.

Best fin for propulsion small foot

Many of the female divers around here have jets but trimmed them back to be easier on the feet. They don't movie as much water with each kick but then again they don't have as much mass to push.

Where was your first 2013 dive?

Crazy Canuck here. We had 20+ divers plus a great surface support crew providing hot chocolate and cookies. Water temp was 40F-ish, air was -5C or so. Great start to the year, only 364 days of diving left.

    Blackbeard's Oct 6-12

I'm on the cruise for oct 6-12. The weather in Nassau is looking as thunder showers followed by more thunder showers. Anyone been down there this past week or so and know how it is? Are they able to sail out of the system or am I looking at pretty much a week of rain?

Greetings from the Arctic Ocean (Cambridge Bay, Nunavut)

How is it for tourists? Diving up in the Arctic is on my list of dive sites to go but really don't know where would be a good place to go, if it's easy to get air/nitrox and a boat out.

    Thanks for visiting Waterproof Canada

Talk to Dean at the Dive Academy in Oakville. He is the dealer for the area. I'm not sure if he has any in stock now but he might so call him.

Dry suit - if money was no object!

From a cold water diving my Waterproof D1 with silicone seals has been amazing. Dean at the Dive Academy in Oakville sells them. With underarmor wicking garments I've dove the D1 from 85F (pools) down to 30F (Newfoundland). It's a solid suit that has no issues taking a little rust from inside...

    Shearwater Predator v45

While I'd love to get the Petrel my Predator is only a month old. In the material for the Petrel it say the new computer was branched from v45 of the Predator code. So, two questions. 1) Since v45 of the Predator code is out there will it be released? Online it's showing the latest version...

Where to rent an underwater camera in Cozumel?

I had a bad experience with Armando. The camera had a bad sensor so all the pictures off it had a line of red pixels down the centre. Sadly I did this on the last day and didn't have a laptop to check the pics until after I was home. He was also late dropping off the camera and the pictures -...

Bouyancy control while ascending - What are the best practices?

Excellent point - and this wasn't posted in the VED. This was posted in the new divers form looking for help. Your original post also didn't mention to the new diver that you used different equipment that had different buoyancy characteristics and they might be interested in changing their...

Bouyancy control while ascending - What are the best practices?

Hmmm, great control over your lungs. A 7mm suit starts at the surface as about 13lbs positive, add a full jacket, good and gloves and you're at 22lbs, now add an empty 80 that's 25 lbs of buoyancy you need to offset with lead (not including diver fluffiness). Now, let's take that down to 100 ft...

    Waterproof D1 Hybrid Drysuit

I was in Newfoundland diving. As for the ankle weights - that's just because of me. With the Jetfins and ankle weights my trim is a little off. Everyone will be different.

    Waterproof D1 Hybrid Drysuit

Just as an update to this - I was out diving this in 30F water, just underarmor dry under garments and I was completely fine temperature-wise. Biggest issue is the ankles can catch a bunch of air and I can get my foot out of the fin. I fixed this with some velcro wraps and all is well (don't...

waterproof D1.. anyone familar with it?

I have one, not too many dives and it's the only drysuit I've owned so I can't be too much help but I'd encourage you to test-dive it as it is fairly different from other suits. The silicone seals are very comfortable and the build quality seems to be great. Because the neck seal is easily...

    PEI august 3-10, 2012

If they aren't running anything this summer send me a PM. While I have moved away I still have a buddy there who is itching to dive but most of the folks that were diving last summer have moved off Island.

Check with Diver's Quarters. They are the only shop in town (well, just outside town but it's a small island). Last year Lauren was at the shop and helped organize Sunday trips out to the Tunsdall (60-75 ft coal ship wreck) and the occasional tuna dive out of Souris. Sadly she's off in the...

Diving gear rent price / buy price Canada USA vs Carribean destinations ??

I wasn't impressed with prices in Cozumel but they were better than many LDS's in Canada ($25 for a single bolt snap?!?!). While I try to support the local shops it's becoming increasingly difficult. We live in a global world and I have had excellent experiences with the folks at...

    Toronto Clubs

I'm moving form the east coast to Toronto and would love to try diving close to my new home. I've only ever dove salt water and was hoping to hook up with a club that could show me the ropes of the area. I suspect there are a ton of clubs in the GTA - any recommendations? I'm not looking...
