    Halcyon's Backplate Pak

Does anyone else have a problem with those t-nuts and bolts coming loose? No need for padding. Change the bolts and add lock-washers.

Got my new SP XXL Jet Fins

I have some XXL and will soon be returning them. They are huge!. I wear a size 13 shoe, which coincidentally enough is loose inside the footpocket. It is just way too big for wetsuit diving. The sizing guide is way off, unless they're made for hobbittses. For anyone wondering, here are...

Halcyon sueing OxyCheq, US Divers and others?

That's funny because whenever I stereotype a country to a foreigner, then I'm uncultured or provincial. C'est la vie.

    Delrin vs. SS

You can paint anything. Maybe there will be a niche market for custom-designed backplates. (Like skateboards). I wouldn't mind a flashy graphic on my backplate - much needed conspicuous consumption for divers. :jaws2:

What is the deal with 5th D?

FWIW. I've had a lot of delayed packages (ok, just 3) and it may be the Christmas season. I never give a shop more than two chances and that's only with an apology for the first screw up. Same goes for hair-cutteries. With the internet, there is always plenty of friendly suppliers.

    Buoyancy of body fat

Let me try. According to Archimedes, the additional Bouyant Force will be equal to the density of water times the new volume of water displaced. The weight of your fat will be the density of fat times the new volume of the fat. The new volume of the fat should be equal to the new volume...

How Halcyon lost my biz to FredT

I'm glad I stumbled onto this board. How sharp do you guys mean by "sharp" My SS BP from Halcyon probably has a 1/16" radius on all the edges. I'm wondering if I should take some precautionary measures, maybe a waterproof spray on rubber material.

Can anyone recommend good dive related books?

I started a similar thread a few months ago. Many of the books are difficult to find - especially for someone who doesn't know where to look. I don't think Amazon has many advanced books on any subject, diving in particular. I've since ordered books from DAN Bestpub GUE and...

    Sewing service

Does anyone do their own sewing? What tools would I need to sew thick material like nylon webbing? I want to make a new knife sheath. I 'd like to use 10 mil aluminum stock for support, sew some Nylon webbing around it and then sew a sheath on the front.

    underwater rescue

In Florida on a picnic, Woody Jasper rescued two divers, who had found an air pocket, from a cave. I forget the details, their in a book called The Cave Divers by Robert Burgess

    New BP/Harness - Setup

I had not consulted the Beatnik, thanks for the link. I tried to decipher the images from the JJ's Fundamentals book to set the plate. The beatnik is much clearer.

    Uwatec Digital Bottom Timer

The one they sell at Scubastore.com is metric. Not much of a problem for depth, but I'm not that great at multiplying 9/5. Maybe I'll just double the value and fudge the addition. BTW. what are these bungies and where do you get them? I assume they are not bungee cord. I went back and...

    New BP/Harness - Setup

My in-laws were incredibly generous and gave me a Halcyon SS BP/Harness for my 30th B-day. Now, I'll have to put out the word on a wing. THE PROBLEM Any suggestions on getting rid of the extra webbing? There is about 18" of webbing outside of the waist buckle and another 18-20" inside the...

Diver Missing in the Florida Keys

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law were both abandoned off of Key Largo a few years ago. They surfacee and saw the boat steaming away. They drifted for an hour or so before being picked up by a fishing boat. I'll have to find out which dive-op it was.

    Everest vs the Andrea Doria

I believe the analogy JohnF used is "famous," not "hardest as perceived by outsiders". The book is an enjoyable read, regardless, and the "Everest analogy" is a miniscule part of the book.

    Tips for Coz drift diving?

There's nothing to it, it is mucho relaxing. Just stay off the reef. Don't fight the current, and hire a guide if you're worried. My very first OW dive was in Cozumel. The current seems to change from trip to trip, but I have only dived (dove?) in the national park. The outer walls...

GUE Rec Triox Trip Report: Something may go wrong…

I'm kidding. I really enjoyed hijumper's report. A week with a gung-ho instructor ripping my mask off and shutting off my valves couldn't be more exciting. I'd love to take the class myself. The good news is that I convinced my wife to take the DIR-F class with me. It's great to have a...
