Good diving for a solo travelling diver?

Thanks for the advice, folks! As far as the liveaboard suggestions, has anyone had any experience with the Aggressor trips? I was thinking that April might be a great time to hit Belize in hopes of some whale shark diving... it would be early April, during a full moon, which apparently is a...

Good diving for a solo travelling diver?

Just to be clear, I'm not looking to dive alone...I'd like to find some skilled, willing, enjoyable partners to dive with. I'm considering all locations, all lodging etc... I will NEVER dive solo...I'm just looking for dive buddies in the absence of my wife for this trip. THanks!

Good diving for a solo travelling diver?

I've got a week off to go diving, but I've not been diving without my wife. She can't get the time off work, so I'm looking for any advice to get in some serious diving. In a nutshell, I'm looking to maximize my time underwater, and any time on-shore I'd be happy to spend...

    Diving Akumal Area...suggestions?

We'd like to stay near the Grand Sirinis resort, and I've not done any cave diving before, but I would be very interested to look into getting cavern certified and maybe diving some of the mellower cenotes. I will check for other threads too, of course. Happy New Year! Thanks, folks! Howler

    Diving Akumal Area...suggestions?

I may be able to travel to the Akumal area and I was wondering if anyone had any diving recommendations, or any suggestions about lodging as well. Any ideas are welcome! We'd like to stay near the Grand Sirinis resort, and I've not done any cave diving before, but I would be very interested to...

    Similar fit to Pano Geo?

Thanks for the help, folks! I wish I were able to try all the Tusa masks on but, being in Colorado, I've got very limited LDS options! The Visio Uno looks interesting, and I'm hoping it has a similar fit to the Pano Geo... Again, thanks for the help! Howler :D

    Similar fit to Pano Geo?

Greetings! I recently tried an instructor's Pano Geo mask and the fit was outstanding for my face. Alas, the model seems to be discontinued?:( Could you recommend a similar fitting mask? THanks in advance, Howler

    fins, fins so many fins.

Ahhhh... the eternal fin debate! Well, as far as my $.02 I can only speak from experience. I'm a fairly new diver, but after diving some split fins, I just didn't feel that they delivered the kind of "feedback" I desired. I recently purchased a pair of Hollis F-1's and, while I am NOT a tech...

    Need for SPG console?

Quick question for folks: My fiance and I are heading to Belize to do some honeymoon diving, and we recently purchased regulators. But, that's ALL we got...regulators. Will we need to buy a pressure gauge also if we want to use our own regs and not rent them? If so, what's the best route...

F-1 Fins...need booties for proper fit?

Thanks for the tips, folks! I'm ordering a pair of hard-soled booties, and I can't wait to try the f-1's out in the water asap! Happy Divin' Y'all! Howler :D

F-1 Fins...need booties for proper fit?

chloevillaume, I'd be happy to help you out if I could, but...I don't have any boots yet I'm afraid. I think, from all the digging around I've done, that I'm gonna need to get some booties so these fins will snug up a little. If you've got small feet, set your springs to the smallest...

F-1 Fins...need booties for proper fit?

Has anyone dived with the f-1 fin without booties using just a shortie, or maybe a 4/3 full wetsuit? If so, did you have trim issues? Did you have too much slop in your fins due to the large footbox? Lastly, any bootie suggestions? As fisheater said, I'll look for some with a good sole...

F-1 Fins...need booties for proper fit?

I'm a fairly new diver, and I just got a pair of f-1 fins (regular size). All of my diving is in warm water, and I don't normally wear any booties. With the size of the footbox on these fins, I've got a fair amount of play in them. I've set the springs to a good length, but I feel like there...

    Buoyancy Question w/ New Fins

I'm unable to dive with the new fins for awhile, but if they turn out to be a little negatively buoyant, would wearing 3mm neoprene booties help some? I know the f-1's were designed with dry-suit divers in mind, but that won't be happening for me any time soon. I think booties will help take...

What are your biggest pet peeves?

:sigh: Agreed! As a teacher, it's well-nigh impossible to ignore my urge to point things like these out, but this seems like the appropriate thread to do so! I've got a personal pet peeve to add: When you say hello to someone, or nod and smile in acknowledgement, and no response is...

    Buoyancy Question w/ New Fins

Thanks for the replies, everyone! They arrived today...wow these things are beefy! Glad to hear that the buoyancy shouldn't be too much of a problem with them, but I do have another question about fit, since this is the first time I've tried on an open heel fin. The f-1's seem to have a...

    Buoyancy Question w/ New Fins

g1138, thanks for the advice. Another question along these lines: I've seen LOTS of dive video's showing divers with their hands outstretched in front of them. Is this a DIR technique? Wouldn't this increase drag somewhat compared to having your arms tucked in under the belly? All newb...

    Buoyancy Question w/ New Fins

Hey folks! I have a new pair of Hollis F-1's on their way...hoping I could get em prior to my AOW course comin' up. I've read a ton on them, and although I'm confident I made a good decision on the purchase, I have read that they tend to be fairly negatively buoyant. My question is...
