The Value of a Turtle - Split from the Honey Girl thread

As far as killing an animal for food...protein is protein (even if it's cute, furry, etc). Not everyone views turtles and dogs for that matter as companion animals. From what I understand, eating Honu is a part of native Hawaiian culture and is part of some of their ceremonies. As such they...

    Servicing your own gear

If you were to switch to a 5-7ft hose on the primary and a 22 inch hose on the back-up with a bungie around your neck, you'd have comfort and the ability to get air. If set up correctly you can actually reach the bungied backup without the use of your hands. Matt

    Holy Partial pressure

So...how do you O2 clean your tanks? bacon grease? :rofl3: People worry about this sort of stuff way too much. Aaron's does have a membrane as well, but they will want to charge you $12 for a new O-ring. Matt

    Holy Partial pressure

Breeze now has a membrane system and the last time I was there it looked like they were setting up a bank for 32%. As far as O2 cleaning goes, my suggestion would be to get some simple green, hot water, and your own dive company stickers printed up a la Oxyhacker. Matt

Tiger Shark attack off Makaha, Oahu

Part of my pre-dive planning with dives I lead with friends includes making sure everyone understnds the proper procedures for shark encounters. Briefly, Since I'm usually the one with the car keys in my wetsuit pockets, that makes me the most important person in the water. If we encounter a...

    Servicing your own gear

I agree. With the nature of the shops out here you would be very unlikely to find one willing to allow you to train to service regs and other equipment. Also, I would suggest you get a copy of the every oxygen hacker manual. Great info in them on many aspects of dive equipment. Any tools that...

    Hello!

For wetsuits, you may want to try wal-mart and kmart. It's been awhile since I looked but they used to carry 3/2 full wetsuits for around $100. After that I would suggest Sports Authority and the Xcel shop at Ward. Matt

    Moving on...

Well folks, I'm nearly done with my doctorate and my final defense is next Monday. It's hard to believe that it's been nearly four years since I moved out here and Sara and I are trading Hawaii for St Louis at the end of next week. I'd like to thanks everyone here for everything and am glad...

Auto Electric or Alternator Help..... (Oahu)

Not sure where exactly you are located, but I've always had good service and felt that I've been treated fairly by Lance Goya's Chevron on Nu'uanu and Pauoa. Alternatively, why not just pull the alternator out and take it to a checker. I believe they can hook it up and diagnose it for you on...

    Hello!

Brent, From my experience the Air2 delivers plenty of air to keep up with two divers, but the hose is really too short to be comfortable to use for any length of time. At the minimum I would recommend a traditional octo, best would be a long hose and bungied back-up :) Matt
