This was in response to Dr. Lecter. You guys/girls posted so fast it was already outdated before I posted it! :D
You're right, the question probably sounded at odds with itself. It was mostly a way to get discussion going. It's nice to see what people want, even if it can't be included in the...
Hi all. I'm in a hardware class and am trying to design a bottom timer for tech diving.
I was wondering, if you were able to have the perfect bottom timer instantly appear before your eyes, what features/functions would you want?
The goal is to keep it bare bones and simple, which makes it...
A good mask will "suction cup" to your face, so no, you won't have to tilt your head back. Unfortunately, it takes many divers a lot of mask shopping to find that perfect mask. It's sometimes a multi-year experience.
Every scuba shop you go in to, try on all of their masks. You may find that...
Diving is not super expensive unless you buy everything new. At least, it's not expensive here in the midwest. I avoid dive shops like the plague (except for tank rentals or to try on masks and wetsuits for fit).
For instance:
Freedom plate $150
Oxycheq mach v 30lbs wing $272
Hollis mask (from...
1. Holding your breath, especially as a new diver, can be hazardous because you don't have buoyancy down pat yet. Just a few feet up or down can damage your lungs. It takes less than you think and happens faster than you think. At least, that's how it was explained to me.
Can you promise, as a...
1. Uwatec computers, particularly the discontinued bottom timers (At least, I haven't been able to find them new anywhere).
2. Halcyon products
3. Air 2's
4. Split fins - never really thought of those. Thanks.
5. Light monkey lights
6. Deep Sea Supply in general.
Thanks everyone! You've given...
Thanks for the link awap. I'll check into it! It would be nice.
And I can see how that would be a pain, hypnodiver. I probably should just man up and deal with an extra hose lol. Still, I abhor hoses.
I've thought about that a lot, but I hate hoses enough that I would prefer an octo because it can use the low pressure inflator hose. Can I do that with a hog second stage? I've never really thought about if it were possible to be honest.
Ok, this is a really weird thread. I have a tendency to think of things in a really odd way; it comes with being different I guess, but we all love to breath underwater here which isn't quite normal, so bare with me! :dork2:
I'm still gathering scuba equipment here and there. I'm a researcher...
I'm planning on upgrading my regs because they are extremely tempermental and I also want to service everything myself. I'm really leaning towards Hogs. But hog doesn't manufacture an octopus, right?
Any recommendations on a good octopus that's well known for it's ability to get serviceable...
Wheh! Lot's of good info.
As Scuba_Noob said, I'm just going to have to stay up off the bottom further until I get this sorted out.
-I'm not wearing ankle weights, so that's not the problem.
-I can't move my tank any higher or it smacks me in the back of the head. So the tank isn't too low I...
The only time I've ever opened up my reg to work on it I took a pair of pliers to it!That's how bad my lds messed it up by "servicing" it. I had to literally bend a huge metal lever back into shape.
Not sure what exactly happened, as I bought it used and had it serviced before trying it out...
Welcome to the club! Start cruisin' the forums and get to postin' away, and you'll be making some new friends in no time.
Also, sun tan lotion is part of every dive for me XD. I understand those sun burns!
I would think this would be true to some extent, but remember that the deeper you go, the quicker you build up nitrogen. So quickly descending at the surface wouldn't help you much. Quickly descending at 100' to 130' should make a much bigger difference. As awap mentioned though, it's not...
This is true. There are two sides: You can do anything you want so long as it does not harm someone else (the way it should be), and then there's the fact that if too many people die the cost to society as a whole goes up (crappy, but the USSC believes this way. Seatbelt and motorcycle helmets...
